Malia's pov

i sigh as walk through the doors of the school and people surround us. immediately going straight to Courtney and asking how her summer was and how she is and shit like that, only a few people ask me questions, but that's only because they know i'm best friends with Courtney, and they want to get on her good side. i try and be polite and answer them with short answers. that's already a big step for me, i never usually reply to them, i usually just ignore them and walk off.

the first girl to actually talk to me properly out of the whole crowd is a small girl, she has a slim body, gorgeous green eyes, medium length dark brown hair that's slightly curled. she's got a nude coloured lipstick, dark eye shadow and a perfect skin tone. she's wearing a dark purple dress that comes to just above her knees and flows out, so its not one of those clingy dresses, she had a black leather jacket to accompany it, she has high purple socks and greyish boots with them and finally she has a brown shoulder bag that goes perfectly and ties her look together completely. and whats weird is that she came straight to me and didnt even glance at Courtney like most girls. i think i might talk to her, she seems nice.

"how was your summer Malia?" the girl, whos name is Hayley, asks me politely as we walk down the hallway together, leaving behind the crowd of girls talking to courtney. i smile at her and lean against my locker, her standing infront of me with a smile on her face.

"good thank you, what about yours?" i ask her politely. her smile clearly brightens and she blushes slightly making me raise an eyebrow at her and smirk. "was there a boy?" i ask teasingly, while waggling my eyebrows suggestively. she looks down and blushes harder.

"yes" she mumbles quietly. i aww at her which makes her giggle and she looks up at me again.

"so what's his name and what's he like?" i ask her, wanting to hear everything. she sighs and smiles again.

"his name is luke, he is sweet, funny, caring, adventurous and he can sing and play the guitar" she gushes about him making me smile at her. it's strange how i've instantley clicked with Hayley. she's just so nice and sweet.

"he sounds great" i tell her honestly. she smiles at me and nods. she frowns suddenly and looks at me.

"Malia...you don't have to answer if you dont want to but, why are you talking to me? you don't really talk to many people...." she says slowly as is it would offend me. i chuckle at her and shake my head.

"don't worry i know i dont talk to people. but i guess its because you seem to want to be friends with me for me, not because i'm friends with courtney and you seem like a really nice down to earth girl that i can trust" once i'm finished talking she smiles at me in awe.

"i like courtney but i wouldn't pretend to like you just to get close to her. i'm not that type of girl" i nod and smile at her.

"well what class do you have now?" i ask her, she looks down at her schedule and her eyes visdably light up. she looks back up at me with a big grin plastered on her face.

"Music, we're in the same class together. wanna walk with me?" i furrow my eyebrows in confusion. i don't remember seeing her in that class, but then again i never paid attention. i smile at her and nod.

"sure" and with that we head towards the music room.

maybe this year wont be so bad.

one step forward

no steps back.
