Distracted by something in the distance she looked over his shoulder and her eyes widened and beamed with glee. She dropped her hand, amazed by what she saw, and ran past him. He turned and called to her. 'Girl. Girl. Girl!'
He watched as she ran faster and faster, further and further away. His heart filled with pain and tears rolled down his cheeks.
'Girl?' he whispered as the last rays of the sun disappeared behind the mountains.
The flood of grief gave way to rage and he broke into a sprint after her. He ran faster than the wind, determined to save the girl his soul loves. As he got closer he called out to her again.
'Girl! Girl! Girl! Girl!'
She kept her eyes locked on what she saw in the distance and kept running towards it. Not once looking back at him. Away from the boy her soul loved.
