"GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" Alyssa woke with wide eyes, shooting up in bed as panic and fear coursed through her.
Despite being scared and panicked, she was still half asleep and didn't realize what might be happening all she knew was her mother was screaming, and usually, that left her with bruises. She curled in on herself at the thought.
What's happening? Why's mother upset? Will she come upstairs? Will she hurt me? Why is she screaming?
Where's Luke?
"I'm not going anywhere she is my sister and-" Luke. Luke's here. Alyssa let out a breath of relief. If Luke's here, mother couldn't hurt her, couldn't scream at her. She was safe.
"And I am your mother!" Her mother screamed back at Luke. She had never heard mother scream at her brothers, let alone like that. That scream was reserved for her. At least it was until now.
"My mother wouldn't hurt my little sister!" Luke was angry. She could tell just by his voice. Why was he angry? Oh right, mother has been hurting her and he just found out. Finally, Alyssa could remember what had happened before she fell asleep.
"She is not your little sister!" Her mother hissed, Alyssa's eyes widened more than she had previously thought possible. No, no, she couldn't- s-she wouldn't, "She is nothing but a brat!"
"What happened to you mom? This isn't you." Luke told her mother as Alyssa curled into herself more. Luke's closet door had to be open, that must be why she could hear everything they were saying with ease.
"Don't you go up there." Her mother warned Luke, Alyssa heard a soft thud before the sound of heavy footsteps was heard that slowly came closer until she heard Luke's bedroom door open.
Alyssa couldn't breathe. Couldn't think. She couldn't do anything.
And then her door opened to reveal Luke who was clearly angry however he softened, all anger disappearing when he saw her. "Alyssa." He breathed out.
Alyssa stayed silent as Luke rushed over to her, picking her up and holding her in his arms, shocked and concerned by how easily he did so. He was strong sure but it was far too easy. She was too light. He frowned at the thought however it quickly turned into a smile as Alyssa held her onto his shirt, curling into him as she relaxed in his arms.
Luke began to run his fingers through her hair softly, "You're alright, I'm here, I'm here, it's okay. You're safe." He told her softly, "I'll keep you safe." He promised.
"I know you will..." She replied in a whisper making Luke smile, pride filling him at the thought that Alyssa knew he would keep her safe, that she felt safe around him. Alyssa shuffled in his arms before forcing herself to lift her head to look at him softly, "Where're the boys?"
Luke smiled softly, knowing how close Alyssa was to the boys, they're like brothers to her, and she's like a sister to them. "They're waiting outside." He answered as he continued to run his fingers through her hair.
Alyssa hummed as she curled back into him making Luke chuckle. "What are we gonna do Lukey?" She asked softly, unable to hide how nervous she still was.
"Don't worry about it Aly, just know you're safe." Luke replied. Alyssa nodded before yawning. "You're still tired?" He chuckled.
"A bit." Alyssa admitted with a blush.
Luke tightened his grip, "Go to sleep Aly, I'll be here when you wake up, I promise." He whispered to her.
They stayed there for a while until Luke looked down and saw Alyssa asleep, breathing softly. She looked so peaceful. So calm. So relaxed. Luke realized he didn't know the last time he saw her like this.
Luke gazed down at her, savoring the moment for a few more minutes until he sighed and laid her down, taking out his phone to text the boys. Luke wasn't surprised at all to find the boys had texted him, he didn't bother reading them, he just started texting before hitting send.
Luke
Alyssa fell asleep. I'll get some of her things and meet you guys outside.Luke then took a quick picture of Alyssa before sending it to the boys knowing they'd be worried about how she was doing, he then slipped his phone back into his pocket before standing up, careful not to wake Alyssa. He held his breath when Alyssa grumbled however she simply turned on her side and continued to sleep. He released the breath he had been holding before looking around her room for a bag or something to put some of her things in until they figured something out.
He was surprised to find the suitcase they had given her as a joke for when she would come with them on their tours when she got older sitting right beside her dresser. It was covered in a thin layer of dust and had not been touched since they had given it to her before they left but it was there.
He quickly grabbed it, setting it on the floor and opening it, coughing quietly at the dust that flew off when he opened it. He stood up and went over to her dresser, scrunching his nose at how small the clothes were as well as how old and worn they were. He silently added that to his mental checklist, get Alyssa new clothes.
He started placing random clothes into the suitcase, he put plenty of shirts, pants, and threw in a few bras and underwear which he did not particularly enjoy but she would need it. He then moved onto her other things like notebooks for school, her songwriting book, and whatever else he thought she might need before piling it into her suitcase.
He then went to grab a pillow or blanket for her but found that all her blankets were torn and dirty, her pillows weren't any better.
She was getting new ones for sure, he thought before putting her charger and a few of her books inside as well and finally he zipped it up. He picked the suitcase up, glancing at Alyssa before going downstairs with her suitcase. Her mother had left, slamming the door rather loudly, around the time he started to pack her suitcase, he was glad for it as he wasn't looking forward to having to fight with her especially since the commotion might have woken Alyssa.
He quickly took her suitcase out to the car before going back upstairs for Alyssa, he barely said a word to the boys, simply telling them he had to get Alyssa before rushing back inside. He didn't want her to wake while he wasn't there and panic.
People don't always get what they want.
