People don't always get what they want.

Alyssa found this out when she woke without Luke by her side like he promised he would be.

She knew this long before however her waking without him was just another painful reminder that she couldn't rely on anyone but herself, that people break promises all the time, but most importantly, people don't always get what they want, especially when your name is Alyssa Hemmings.

When she woke, not only was Luke nowhere to be found, her things were gone and there was screaming to be heard. The screaming was downstairs and Alyssa was sure if she truly listened she could understand it better however, still tired from her recent sleep, her eyes merely widened as she cowered into herself, getting into a tight ball as she hoped that by some miracle the screaming would stop.

It was times like these when she would put her earbuds in and blast music to at least help make the voices quieter however a hesitant glance around the room told her that her earbuds and phone were gone as well.

Cowering even more back in her bed, wishing she could disappear, she heard the voices get louder however she still wasn't able to understand the words being spoken.

Suddenly, her bedroom door was slammed open causing Alyssa to shut her eyes tightly, scared of what would happen next as she wondered who was there however she didn't dare open her eyes even as she heard footsteps that slowly got louder until the stopped right next to her bed and a hand was placed on her shoulder, finally snapping her out of her frightened daze.

Just as Luke had placed his foot on the first step, his hand on the rail, the front door slammed open causing him to nearly fall back, he straightened up before turning around, his body tense as he knew none of his friends would slam the door like that with Alyssa sleeping upstairs or in the house at all which meant there was only one person it could be.

Luke's suspicion was unfortunately found to be correct as he turned around to find his mother standing there, stumbling with her keys, her hair a mess, her makeup even messier, and smelling of booze.

Luke scrunched up his nose at the smell as he stared at his mother in shock and disgust. He never knew his mother to do such a thing, to be such a person, and yet here she was, proving him wrong about everything he had thought of her in the past in the worst way.

His mother didn't seem to notice Luke at first as she threw her keys on the nearby table before turning to the stairs, about to kick off her heels and climb upstairs to either scream at Alyssa or go to her bedroom, she hadn't decided yet when she noticed her son standing there.

A grin came to her face as she saw her son standing by the stairs, she didn't seem to notice his tense figure, the frown he wore, or the look of disgust he gave her and she certainly didn't seem to remember the reason she had left the house. "Lukey! What are you doing here?" She asked with a grin that Luke found he hated, her words were surprisingly coherent although Luke could tell she was drunk by them still.

"I'm here to get Alyssa." He told her mother tensely, wondering how his mother would react. He had no clue anymore. He felt as if he didn't know anything about her anymore and he wasn't even sure if he wanted to, he just wanted to get his sister out, away from here.

His mother frowned at his words although she didn't seem angry or even sad, she almost seemed... confused. "Why do you want that wretched girl?" She questioned casually as she slid off her heels clumsily, nearly falling over.

Luke didn't move to help his mother when she stumbled, nearly falling over, he merely watched.

"All she's good for is cleaning my messes and she isn't even all that good at that." His mother huffed.

Luke jaw tightened, his teeth grinding against each other before he spoke, his teeth gritted. "She is my sister. She is perfect."

His mother waved his words off with ease. "Yes, yes, we know you're her big brother, you love her." Her words sounded almost teasing. "The act is kind of boring after awhile Lukey dear."

Luke stayed silent, not even knowing what to say as he stared at his mother in a mixture of shock, disgust, and confusion. When did she turn into... this? Luke didn't even recognize her anymore.

When his mother moved towards him, Luke finally snapped. "Get the hell away from me!"

His mother stumbled back, her eyes widened as she stared at her son. "I'm your mother Luke, I'm allowed to give you a hug!" His mother argued about to move to try yet again to give him a hug however she paused as if confused when Luke moved away.

"Did you give Alyssa hugs?" Luke questioned, "Did you even want to?"

His mother huffed. "Of course not. I never wanted a daughter. I'm not going to fool her into thinking I care. That's just cruel." His mother waved off.

"Cruel?!" Luke snapped. "Cruel?! What's cruel is forcing her to cook and clean for you because you, an adult, can't get off your-"

Before Luke knew it, he was having a screaming match with his mother, all concern for Alyssa forgotten for now as he was lost in his rage however when Calum appeared in the door with a sheepish smile he knew something was off.

"I'm going to go get Alyssa for you. Don't mind me." Calum told him attempting to go upstairs however Luke's mother's shout paused his actions.

"Absolutely not!" His mother screamed. "That girl will not leave this house! I am her mother and I do not give anyone permission to take her away!"

Luke took a deep breath, forcing himself not to scream back as he instead looked at his friend. "Go." Luke told him, nodding his head in the direction of the stairs. "Take her out through the back door, she shouldn't have to go past her." He suggested, Calum nodded in agreement, moving to go upstairs until Luke called out to him again, "Wait!" Luke's call caused Calum to turn back to him, "Tell her I'll meet her outside and I'm sorry."

Calum nodded in a silent promise before going upstairs as Luke continued to fight with his mother.

This was going to be a long day.
