the room was quiet. no sounds were made except for the sound of one of the machines beeping beside the hospital bed and the soft breaths coming from the two people in the room.

daniel was sat in a chair next to ophelia and has been all night. he refused to move from where he sat the previous night, the blonde barely got two hours of sleep, and even with nurses regularly coming in to check on ophelia he still has not moved.

daniel's hand held ophelia's limp one. it broke to man's heart to see the love of his life with an iv in her hand, a machine beeping to make sure her heart was stable, and bandages around and on her cheek, arms, and wrists, covering her cuts.

the last time daniel had seen ophelia in a state like this was when she had back surgery three years ago.

"it's not true," daniel said. "tell me i've been lied to. crying isn't like you." daniel reached his free hand up to ophelia's untouched cheek, moving the pad of his thumb across the soft skin.

"what the hell did i do? never been the type to, let someone see right through," daniel continued. "maybe won't you take it back, say you were trying to make me laugh, and nothing has to change today you didn't mean to say i love-"

before daniel could continue to speak, he felt something squeeze his hand. he felt someone squeeze his hand. daniel's eyes quickly moved to ophelia's noticing how they were squinting before repeatedly blinking open.

daniel's eyes quickly flickered between ophelia's and where ophelia's grip had significantly tightened on his hand. daniel's eyes remained on her's, the pair holding a soft episode of eye contact, as a smile slowly grew on daniel's face putting his tooth gap on display.

"dani,"

her voice was hoarse and her eyes held a sense of confusion. breaking the eye contact between her and daniel, ophelia's eyes began to wander around her environment. she looked around her hospital room, ready to ask daniel why she was there. until her eyes landed on her arm.

sadness washed over ophelia's emotions as she looked back at daniel, then back at her arm. "so it wasn't a dream." ophelia rasped.

daniel shook his head, moving his hand along her cheek once again. "why didn't you tell me you were in this much pain?"

"i-i didn't want to be a burden," ophelia whispered, moving her head away from daniel's hand to look down. "i didn't want to annoy you with my issues."

"ophelia, baby, you could never be a burden. not to me or to anyone else. and talking about what bothers you doesn't make you annoying, love that makes you better at communication."

communication has been something that ophelia has always struggled with throughout her life. when it came to certain aspects of her life, she kept things that she should have spoken out about to herself.

for example, when she was getting nightmares about her father and barely any sleep, she didn't say anything about it. she kept it to herself for weeks until anna caught her having an anxiety attack in her sleep.

when she was younger, she would have anxiety attacks because of the things her father screamed at her. she didn't tell chrissy, despite her knowing about her daughter's severe anxiety. chrissy didn't know how bad of anxiety attacks rick caused until she caught ophelia in the middle of one on the floor of her bathroom.

the girl had a high pain tolerance. so, in gymnastics if she was complaining about something being in pain, it was almost always something serious. but, there were often times when she would be in pain because of a wrong landing or because she just wanted to get into full swing after an injury and she wouldn't say anything about the pain she felt. she didn't want to stop. ophelia loved her sport with a passion.

in her past toxic relationships when she tried to communicate about the way she felt or about her preferences, her words would constantly get disregarded and invalidated. thus, making her already horrible communication skills worse. those relationships added to her thoughts of her speaking up not being okay, both boys constantly making her feel like a burden.

they told her she was annoying, invalidated the way she felt, telling her that what she said wasn't important. they manipulated her into thinking that their problems were more important than her's. they gas-lit her telling her the way she felt was wrong.

"i just-i can't lose you too. i want you here, i need you here," daniel admitted. "i'm not justin and i'm not beck. i have never and will never make you feel like the way you feel doesn't matter or that you aren't important. because trust me, you are. okay?"

"okay," ophelia nodded, genuinely listening and taking in daniel's informations.

"once you get discharged you and i are just going to have a long talk," daniel informed, pushing ophelia's messy hair oit of her face, making every single one of her freckles clear to see. "i love you and your freckles," daniel mumbled admiring the girl's naturally gorgeous face.

the door to ophelia's hospital room and two adults walked inside. both were of female orientation, one doctor and one nurse. a smile made it's way on both the ladies faces upon seeing that ophelia was awake.

"well hello there ms. ophelia," the doctor smiled, moving to stand on the side of the hospital bed opposite to ophelia. "i am doctor lucy, and this is nurse madi. hello mr. seavey."

"hey doc," daniel simply replied.

doctor lucy explained that ophelia had a concussion, extensive blood loss, and high blood pressure due to stress. she explained that the wounds that needed it, which was most of them, had been stitched last night, that because of her concussion she was not allowed to use electronics, watch tv, write, or draw for at least seven days.

ophelia asked doctor, nurse, and daniel why she had a bandage on her cheek.

nurse madi explained with the help of daniel that when ophelia must have passed out from the blood loss, she hit her head on something and had to have scratched her cheek with her nail. ophelia then asked when she was going to be able to go home.

"well, now that you're awake there are some other tests that we have to do, we will keep you here one more night just to be on the safe side," doctor lucy said with a warm smile. "but i have a strong feeling you are going to be ok."
