I grin and hug my friends as they burst through the door.

Penelope breaks away from the hug. "You'll never guess what!"

"What!?" we ask.

She pulls a blue badge out of her pocket. "Oh my god! You're a prefect!" I shout.

I dash up the stairs to my bedroom and fish the envelope from my desk. "Guess who the new Ravenclaw quidditch captain is," I say, grabbing my badge and clamoring back down the stairs.

"No way! You'll be amazing!" Ambria grins.

"Bloody hell, me and Ambria didn't get anything," sighs Candace.

"I'm just happy I don't have to deal with all the extra responsibilities that come with being quidditch captain or prefect," shrugs Ambria.

"I wonder who the other new prefects and quidditch captains are..."

"Well, Charlie Weasley is gone this year-" I grin.

"Ha! He was the only thing keeping their team on top," Candace says, smugly.

"Yeah, good luck replacing him," Penelope carefully places her badge back in her pocket.

"Ah, damn, that reminds me- I need to find a new seeker, too," I bite my lip.

"Yeah, but it won't be hard to find someone better than Jacob Deering," Penelope says, laughing.

I continue what I was saying before they interrupted me to berate Gryffindor. "So, anyways- I'm betting Oliver Wood is the new Gryffindor captain."

Oliver Wood- keeper for the Gryffindor quidditch team. I play keeper as well. I'd say the two of us are rivals, maybe even enemies.

I'm excited to actually have a chance this year- now that Charlie Weasley is gone, we'll have no problem taking the quidditch cup.

"Oh Merlin, I can't wait for Gryffindor to finally get humbled," Candace sighs.

"Enough talk, girls, you need to start getting ready," my mum chimes in as she walks past with the laundry basket.

"Right away, Mrs. Parker," Penelope smiles.

We dash up the stairs and start getting dressed and doing our makeup. Every year, the four of us get ready together before the train leaves for school.

"What are you going to wear, Laurie?" Ambria asks me as Candace and Penelope chat together.

I step towards my closet and pull out a pair of overalls and a pink shirt. "Tada!"

"Ooh, its very cute, I love it," she smiles, starting to fish around in her bag for her outfit.

I pull off my t-shirt and sweatpants, stepping into the overalls. Once I'm dressed, I sit at my vanity and grab my curling iron.

"Laurie, you need to teach me how to do that," Candace frowns, watching me curl my hair.

I'm a muggleborn, so my house is fairly normal compared to my friends, who all have at least one magic parent (except for Penelope).

I smile. "I'll do your hair, don't worry."

As I curl Candace's hair, she wonders out loud, "Who do you reckon the Slytherin prefects and quidditch captains are?"

I frown. "Marcus Flint'll be quidditch captain."

Candace scoffs. "He's a total slug wad."

"Yeah, yeah he is," I sigh.
