YJ looks at Yedam, "Should we go?"
"Sure" Yedam replies, slightly disappointed that their evening was coming to an end.
When they arrive at YJ's home, Seo Joon looks over at YJ peacefully sleeping and turns to Yedam in the back, signaling for him to stay quiet
Then out of nowhere, Seo Joon yells, "FIRE!"
YJ jumps up and looks around frantically.
"Aw I was hoping for a scream at least."
She glares at Seo Joon, "You're terrible."
YJ gets out of the car and opens Yedam's door, "Move up to the front so you can keep Seo Joon oppa company. And get home safely! Night!" And then she's gone.
It's silent in the car until Seo Joon speaks up, "Should we stop to eat something? I haven't eaten since this morning and I'm starving."
They pull the wooden chairs out from under the table and simultaneously take a seat across from each other. The lighting is dim and the hanging records and wooden walls give the restaurant a cozy feel.
"It's on me so order whatever you want." Seo Joon says as he starts pouring water in their glasses.
"Thank you sunbae-nim!" Yedam responds, eyeing the grilled beef. A growing man needs his protein.
"You can drop the honorifics, just call me hyung."
Seo Joon twists the cap to a soju bottle, "You're still underage right? Do you mind if I drink?"
Yedam sits up with his back straight, "Not at all, please don't mind me."
They exchange small talk, but the conversation starts to get more personal after Seo Joon finishes the first soju bottle. His cheeks are slightly flushed, but still very handsome.
"You know, Yun Jeong talks about how talented you are." Seo Joon starts. "She also mentioned how smart you are and how well you do in school. You must be popular among the students."
"No no..it's not like that." Yedam responds.
"What about girls? Do you have a girlfriend?"
"What! No!"
Seo Joon laughs at his reaction, "Do you like anyone?"
Yedam takes a moment to think, "I do."
Seo Joon doesn't say anything at first, almost as if he's in thought.
"Me too", he finally says. "Does she know?"
"No."
"Are you going to tell her?"
"Probably not." Yedam admits.
"It's complicated, isn't it...being in our industry." Seo responds.
Yedam nods.
Seo Joon's screen lights up with a text message. "It's Yun Jeong, checking to see if we got home safely. She's thoughtful isn't she?" He says as he texts her back.
Yedam nods. He stares at the table and wonders when it would be an appropriate time to exchange numbers with YJ. He's slightly jealous that she and Seo Joon are so friendly.
"She's quite the catch. People don't normally notice her at first, but most guys start falling for her once they get to know her. Watch out, you might start liking her too if you aren't careful." Seo Joon jokes.
"Hah..ha" Yedam plays it cool. "So she's not dating?"
"No, she's been on dates, but since college she always said the same thing, I'm just not interested in dating right now, I want to focus on school and friendships. Then, when she graduated and started working she'd say, I want to focus on my career and family."
Yedam's hope starts to dwindle. "She's never had a boyfriend?"
"Technically she did in high school. All I can tell you is he is an actor now. Of course at the time he was just a dull, normal student. Yun Jeong doesn't talk about it, but all I know is when he started gaining more attention after graduating, she broke up with him."
This leads to questions about school and classes, then eventually leads back to Seo Joon's love life.
"Does the girl you like, know you like her?" Yedam asks.
"No. Maybe. I think she suspects, but I've never said anything about it." Seo Joon confesses.
"What is she like?" Yedam asks.
"Unique and charismatic. The type that isn't concerned with being friends with the successful or owning the latest handbag. Emotionally generous and loyal to the people she cares about. Beautiful."
Yedam nods, hyung definitely has a good eye. "Is she also an actress?"
"Ha ha, no she's not an actress."
"Why don't you tell her? Wouldn't most women jump at the chance to be with the Park Seo Joon?"
Seo Joon laughs. "Not this woman."
Yedam decides not to push it and helps himself to more grilled meat.
"What about you? What's the girl like?"
Yedam's eyes move up to the modern lamp hanging above their table and thinks as swallows his food. "She doesn't smile much. She can be demanding, self focused, and we don't have much in common." His eyes move back to Seo Joon's confused face.
"But when she does smile, it lights me up from the inside. She thinks deeply about the the choices she makes in her life. She's not afraid to be honest with herself and I have a lot of respect for her."
Seo Joon stares at Yedam, "That almost sounds like love."
Yedam's eyes go wide. "Can it be love if it's one sided?"
"It sure fees like it. Look at us, we sure are a pitiful pair." They both crack up.
"At least we have nice hair." Yedam jokes.
"Yes, at least we have that." Seo Joon laughs again.
