Yawn.

Kanami could hardly keep her eyes open. She covered her mouth with her hand as she yawned, leaning her head against the window and trying not to let the gentle lull of the bus prompt her eyes to close completely. She couldn't sleep on the bus.. she wasn't sure if she could really take the embarrassment of being woken up - or of accidentally staying on the bus too long. It was hard to see her, after all - the bus seats were much taller than she was. And she sat alone.

Staring at the school coming up on the street, picking at the baggy sleeves of her cosy blue cardigan, Kanami sighed. She got plenty of sleep that night, but they always had to wake up so early for this.. and she almost never was a morning person.

"Kana! Goodmorning," A familiar pink haired girl plopped herself down in the seat next to her, a girl Kanami recognised as Haruka Hidaka -- the pretty girl she had a crush on in eighth and ninth grade. "Shuichi was telling me how.." She went on, resting her head on Kanami's shoulder.

Haruka,
I hope you get this letter and don't find me scary. But I never really share these letters anyway.. maybe you'll be different.

Kanami laughed along with Haruka's story, a little nervous as the fluffy pink hair brushed against her cheek. Reluctantly, she tried to get a little more eased into talking, sitting up. "Um.. H- Haruka, you're a-always talking about Shuichi," She patted her head hesitantly. "But g-goodmorning..! D-Did you finish your schoolwork last night..?"

I really like you. You're always really nice to me, and you never bug me about being too quiet unless it's all teasing. Even though you're kinda loud, I feel comfortable with you. And your hair is really pretty.. I like how you wear it so freely and I like how it feels when it brushes up my cheeks..

"Oh-! Right. Thanks Kanami!" Haruka swung her backpack down in front of her, sifting through the papers shoved haphazardly inside and somehow tugging out each paper assigned for homework that night. "I'm gonna go get Shuichi to help. Seeya!" She promptly stood up from her seat, dragging her dirty old backpack along and sitting herself next to the darkly dressed detective. She pushed the bill of his hat down over his head, ruffling his hair underneath it and starting to chat with him.

I don't know if I'll ever send this letter.. I'm too scared to. Maybe I will this time..?

Kanami wished she had someone like that. She wistfully watched the two of them talk, old friends since the first day of kindergarten. Nobody would expect them to be so close, but they were. Kanami remembered the letter she never sent, chuckling quietly and pulling her backpack over her shoulder as the bus came to a screeching stop. "U-Um, Haruka.. how do you guys stay so close?" She gently asked, poking her shoulder.

"Me and Shuichi?" Haruka glanced at Shuichi, a thoughtful look on her face. She blinked, giving Kanami a shrug and a laugh. "Dude, I have no idea! This guy's just gotta deal with me now. I was lucky I caught him early, I guess."

"O-Oh, right.." Kanami seemed to falter a moment. Maybe she'd never have someone like that. "W-Well, thank you. I think you two are nice t-together.. l-like.. b-blueberries and strawberries." She offered her a little smile.

"Thanks..?" Haruka's face reddened, and she ruffled Kanami's hair. "Well- Have fun in your first period class!"

..I won't.
