After I agreed to take the job, Damon left to make a few calls and get everything set up. I hadn't eaten since before the gallery, so, after a lot of convincing and one borrowed sweatshirt, Emma took me to the kitchen to grab some food.
The apartment was absolutely huge. Everything was sleek, modern, and definitely expensive. I'd never seen an apartment this nice.
It took a little work, but I managed to lift myself onto a stool at the island.
"So," Emma said as she began searching the kitchen for food, "if you're going to be my brother's fiancé—" She turned around and gave me a mischievous smile. – "then we should get to know each other."
"Don't you mean 'fake fiancé'?" I asked. Emma waved away the question.
"Whatever," she said.
"Hey, Doc," came a voice from the living room. I turned around to see who it was. A tall, well-built blond man wearing black jeans and a gray t-shirt dropped a black leather jacket onto the back of the couch and walked over to us.
"Perfect timing," Emma said with a smile, "Get in here and make us some food."
"Normally, I'd object to that," he said matching Emma's smile with a smirk of his own, "but I've had your cooking."
"Yeah, yeah," Emma said, taking a seat on the stool next to me, "just hurry up please?" He rolled his eyes and turned to me.
"Aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?" he said, his eyes trailing up and down my body, which, coming from anyone else, would've felt like he was undressing me with his eyes, but, for some reason, it seemed like he was simply looking at me. Emma rolled her eyes, then gave me a mischievous smirk before turning back to him.
"Tony," Emma said, "This is Lupin."
"Nice to meet you, Lupin," he said extending his hand in greeting, which I took with my own. I nodded in greeting and gave him a small smile. Tony looked at Emma and, for a split second, I thought I saw him give her a questioning look. It was gone before I knew for sure.
"So," Tony said, turning around to start cooking, "How long have you two known each other?"
"Not long," Emma answered as a knowing smile spread across her face. I couldn't help but be thankful that she was taking the lead. I never was good at being put on the spot.
"Okay," Tony said, "Do you work together at the hospital?"
"No," Emma said. She was clearly entertained by the whole situation.
"Then how do you guys know each other?"
"Lupin," Emma said, somehow managing to keep a straight face, "is Damon's fiancé."
"Damon's what?!" Tony turned around, holding a spatula in one hand and a frying pan in the other. The look on his face was absolutely priceless and completely hilarious. He looked at Emma like she'd grown two heads.
"Explain!" Tony demanded, "Now!" I couldn't help but smile. Tony's yelling would've been a lot more intimidating if he wasn't waving a spatula around as he spoke. Emma gave me a mischievous smirk before turning back to Tony with a completely innocent look on her face.
"Explain what, Tony?" she said.
"How," Tony shouted, "did I not know about—" He waved his spatula in my general direction. – "this?!" I think I would've been offended if watching Emma mess with Tony wasn't so much fun.
"Well, this is Lupin," Emma said, putting a hand on my shoulder, "and she's Damon's fiancé." She shrugged. "I really don't see what the big deal is."
