March 1942
Tønsberg, Norway

A villager, Jan, ran inside a church where the Tower Keeper was. "They have come for it!" Jan exclaimed.

"They have before," the Keeper said.

"Not like this," Jan said.

"Let them come. They will never find it," The Keeper said, then a rumbling was heard and something broke down the door. The wall of stones covered Jan, which killed him instantly. The keeper closed Jan's eyes in regret but then saw a machine moving away as HYDRA agents came in. A car drove up with the HYDRA symbol on the hood. HYDRA agents tried to lift the lid of a coffin but couldn't. "Open it! Quickly, before he-"

"It has taken me a long time to find this place." Everyone looked at the entrance of the blown-up church to meet the man of Johann Schmidt. "You should be commended. Help him up," Schmidt said then one of the soldiers helped the keeper to his feet. "I think that you are a man of great vision. And in this way, we are much alike."

"I am nothing like you," the keeper said.

"No, of course. But what others see as superstition, you and I know to be a science," Schmidt said.

"What you seek is just a legend," the keeper said.

"Then why make such an effort to conceal it?" Schmidt asked before he easily opened the old tomb. He picked up the glass cube from the skeleton remains of an old Viking. "The Tesseract was the jewel of Odin's treasure room," he said before he turned to face the keeper but then he deliberately dropped and smashed the glass cube. "It's not something one buries. But I think it is close, yes?"

"I cannot help you," the keeper said.

"No. But maybe you can help your village. You must have some friends out there. Some...some little grandchildren perhaps. I have no need for them to die," Schmidt said as a big tank outside turned the guns towards the village threateningly. The keeper then looked at the carving of a tree on one of the tower walls. Schmidt looked at the wall and slowly walked up to it. "Yggdrasil. Tree of the world. Guardian of wisdom and fate, also," he said before he pressed a button on the carving of the tree and it opened up to reveal the real cube. "And the Führer digs for trinkets in the desert. You have never seen this, have you?"

"It's not for the eyes of ordinary men," the keeper said.

"Exactly," Schmidt said before he closed the box containing the glowing cube and turned to his soldiers. "Give the order to open fire."

"Jawohl!"
"Yes!"

"Fool! You cannot control the power you hold. You will burn!" The keeper exclaimed.

"I already have," Schmidt said before he shot and killed the keeper.

June 1943
New York - Enrollment Facility

Many men were sitting about in chairs, waiting to be called on, and among them a skinny, short man, who had blue eyes and blonde hair.

"O'Connell, Michael. Kaminsky, Henry."

The skinny man put down the newspaper to show how short he really was. "Boy, a lot of guys are getting killed over there," he said.

"Rogers, Steven."

Steve put the newspaper away and got up as the man that was sitting next to him, eyed him. "It kind of makes you think twice about enlisting, huh?" He said.

"Nope," Steve said.

As Steve was standing half-naked in front of the doctor to examine him for enlistment, the doctor eyed him oddly. "Rogers. What did your father die of?" the 4F doctor asked.
