Chapter 8 ~ A Heroic Yet Stupid Deed

Your POV

     A few days have passed and surprisingly, Claude and I started to warm up to each other. Others may see him as the cold emperor, but to me, he is just a stupid and lonely puppy that is too afraid to love anyone because he's been betrayed so many times.

     Today, Athanasia and Lily are visiting. 

     'I can't believe that they are finally coming to visit me!!' I thought while standing patiently beside Claude, waiting for their arrival.

Time Skip

Claude's POV

     "Lilian York, long time no see," I said lazily while resting my head in my hand.

     "Blessings and glory upon the sun of the Obelian Empire." She curtsied while replying respectfully.

     "I haven't been able to pay enough attention to my one and only daughter due to my duties at court, but still Athanasia has grown into such a healthy child. The credit belongs to you." I said while glancing at the maid.

     "Thank you, your majesty."

     "However," I continued. "From now on, I will be looking into the princess' well being. There will be no need to worry." 

     I glanced to my side and saw Y/N looking at me with a questioning gaze. I looked back at the other two and smirked. "Starting today, Princess Athanasia will be treated as a proper princess."

A few days later...

Your POV

     "I think you got a little chubbier since the last time I saw you." I heard Claude insult Athanasia.

     'How dare you,' I thought. 'Athanasia is cuter when she is chubbier.'

     "Hehe, you look pretty too papa!" Athanasia shouted cutely. I imagined stars shining around her when she said that.

     'Ah, this is too much for my heart to handle.'

     I looked to my side and saw Felix looking at them nervously while Lily looked terrified. 

     'What's up with them?' I thought while glancing at them disdainfully.

     I looked back at Claude and Athanasia to see that they were just staring at each other without saying anything. 

     'Ah, I see, that's why.'

     After a few minutes of silence, Claude finally said, "Follow me. I was on my way to the lake. Get ready and join me."

     Lily spoke up quietly, "Your majesty, I worry the princess being around water is..."

     "What's there to worry about when she is with me?" Claude retorted coldly.

     I could only sigh in sadness for Athanasia as I listened to their conversation.

     "B-But..." Lily stammered in fear while Athanasia pulled on her dress, urging her to stop provoking him.

     "Don't you want to join me?" Claude asked Athanasia.

     "Yep, Athy wants to go with papa too!" She exclaimed happily with a terrified Lily in the background.

     "Really?" I could see the amusement in Claude's eyes.

     Then, Claude picked Athanasia up and put her in the boat with him. I giggled quietly seeing Athanasia's emotionless eyes as Claude picked her up like a doll. At this point, I knew what Athanasia was thinking, 'It's over, my life is over.'

     After both of them were sitting in the boat, the boat started moving on its own. Athanasia looked over the edge curiously. 

     'I bet she is thinking about how the boat is moving on its own.' I thought while watching them sail off to sea. 'Goodbye, it was nice meeting you!' I thought dramatically.

Athanasia's POV

     "What are you thinking about?" Claude suddenly asked me.

     'Oops.' I thought while looking back at him. 'What should I do? What should I say?'

     "Your hair is sparkly and pretty papa!" I spouted out. "I like sparkly things! Hehe."

     Claude smiled at me, making me flinch. "That reminds me," He said. "You had a jewel pouch with you that day."

     "I kept your treasures safe and sound. Why don't you come and retrieve them yourself next time?" As he said that, a devastating expression appeared on my face. 

     'I guess I'm not mean't to live a peaceful life.' I thought while Claude looked somewhere else.

     I looked around the river trying to find something interesting. As I was looking around, I spotted something shining in the water. 

     'Woah, what is that?' I thought while looking at a crystal blue lotus in the water. 'I want it.'

     I started reaching out towards the lotus trying to grab it. Unfortunately, I leaned forward too much causing me to fall into the water with a large splash.

     As I fell into the water, I started sinking rapidly. 

     'I... can't... breathe...' I started splashing around the water trying to reach the surface but failed miserably. I could see Claude staring at me from above the water without doing anything. 'Is this... the end?'
