MAIA HATED RUNNING, and she couldn't complain or stop to catch her breath for even a small second, since she was being chased by a weird creature. For mortals, it looked like the girl was being chased by a chihuahua, while little Maia watched a big, fury ball running behind her.

People were screaming at the seven-year old to slow down, while others yelled at her for making them drop their groceries, and the only thing Maia managed to yell was a small 'sorry' and continue running.

She finally lost track of the fur monster, and she collapsed by a tree, finally reaching for her backpack to grab her inhaler; once she used it, she relaxed and she didn't feel like she was going to explode anymore.

'Why did I ran away?' She asked herself, and then, she remembered.

After coming from an exhausting day in school, Maia was running up the steps to arrive to her house, she opened the door and at least she expected a yell from her stepfather to wash the dishes, but she didn't, so, being the curious girl she was, ran towards she expected her stepfather to be - the kitchen.

She didn't find him, and she really didn't care, so she ran up the stairs for her bedroom and announce her mother that she was home, if she was in a good mood.

Maia walked with short steps to her mother's room and when she opened the door, she wished she didn't.

Inside stood Dave, her stepdad, beating her mother until her last final breath. Her mom had bruises all over her face and body, her lip busted, and blood coming out of her nose and mouth; it was a horrible sight. The little girl watched as he hit her one last time and she collapsed in the ground.

Maia didn't know how to react, to scream, cry or run. She noticed Dave haven't noticed her yet, but saw panic in his eyes as he saw that his wife wasn't breathing. She didn't want to yell at Dave since she was afraid that she'll share the same fate as her mother, and she took running quietly to her room.

After staffing everything she needed like: her inhaler, clothes, her sun key chain - which is a gift from her real father - and her teddy bear Mr. Puffles, in her backpack, she ran down the stairs, and she heard that rusty voice yelling at her.

"Brat! You're here!?" He yelled, and she heard footsteps coming from upstairs.

She didn't answer, but she opened the door and ran away as fast as she could from her house while sobbing since she knew that she just had made the riskiest decision in her life.

Maia's eyes had blurred from her tears that she didn't notice three figures standing above her. She blinked a few times, and wiped her eyes with her dirty blue jacket.

Now that she saw the three figures clearly, she took in their appearances. A girl a few years older than her with short black hair and electric blue eyes was crouching and had a small warm smile in her face, the other was a boy, he looked the same age as the girl, he had sandy blond hair and blue eyes, and she turned to look at the next figure; a girl, her same age, with blonde hair and stormy gray eyes was giving her a bright smile, which Maia gladly returned.

"Are you ok?" Asked the blond boy.

"Um...yes" Maia muttered under her breath with a squeaky voice.

"You ran away?" Asked the girl with black hair.

Maia nodded, looking down in embarrassment.

"Hey, don't worry, we ran away too" The boy said

"You-You did?" She stuttered.

The boy nodded and looked over the black haired girl, as if they shared the same thought, and she smirked, agreeing with the idea.

"Do you want to come with us?" The blonde girl blurted our before the other two could ask.

"Are you sure?" Maia's voice trembled.

"Absolutely. You don't deserve to be alone here..." The blond boy trailed off, asking for her name.

"Maia" she responded.

"Well, Maia, are you coming with us?" The black haired girl asked.

"Yes!" The little seven year old exclaimed in joy, she was glad that she wouldn't be alone anymore in the streets.

"My name is Luke by the way" said the boy.

"I'm Thalia" she smiled.

"Annabeth" responded the small girl excited, she was happy that she'd found another girl her age.

Maia smiled and stood up, and they started making their journey, immediately starting conversations with Annabeth about everything.

And that is just the beginning of many adventures Maia was going to get herself into.
