As Soul walked, cradling the sleeping blonde in his arms, he thought about how worried he was the past day.
'I dont like Maka like that, do I? No, of course not. She's my mister. I cant like her like that, it might ruin your whole parnership. Besides she would never like a guy like me anyway.' Soul thought as he walked down the sidewalk. He was so deep in his own thoughts that he didn't notice Maka stir and open her jade eyes wearily.
"Soul?" She asked, looking up at him with a confused expression on her face.
Souls eyes snapped up in surprise. "Maka!"
"Hey, Soul. How long was I asleep?" She mumbled, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"I don't know, you were already asleep when I found you."
"Oh," Maka said, tears threatening to fall as she recalled the previous events with Ryder.
'He was so close, so close to... If I didn't get out of there when I did he would've, gotten to me... I might still...' She couldn't finish that thought without shedding a tear. Maka whimpered and buried her face into Soul's chest.
"Maka, you okay?" He asked his voice laced with worry.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry about me." She cried into Soul's chest making her words barely audible.
Soul sat down on a near by bench, cradling Maka in his lap. He pulled her closer so he could look in her in the eye.
"Maka, tell me what's wrong." Soul demanded in a gentle, yet strong voice.
"I can't."
"Maka-"
"No!"
"Damn it, Maka!"
"I'm not telling you anything." Maka pouted, keeping her eyes down not looking wanting to look at her weapon.
"I'm trying to help you Maka. It's my job to make sure you never get hurt," Soul began. "I don't think I would be able to forgive myself if I let you get hurt. Okay?"
Maka stopped crying and looked up at Soul. She was mentally screaming at herself not to talk, she knew how Soul would react. Even though Ryder deserved a good beating in Maka's opinion. However she felt as though part of the blame was hers. It was still a bit foggy, but there was a chance that Maka lead him on. Maka groaned, all this confusion was not helping her pounding headache. At least the nap helped with the hangover.
"Maka, you can trust me. You know that right?" Soul reminded her.
"I know that!" Maka replied with a huff.
"So tell me what you were running from!"
"What makes you think I was running from something?"
"You looked panicked!"
"I was can not!"
"You're a terrible lair, you know that right?" Soul said, his eyes dead serious.
Maka sighed, "O-okay fine, but.."
"Hm?"
"Promise you won't, you know, freak out or anything?" Maka said.
"I promise."
"Okay, so there was this guy named Ryder..."
{One Story Telling Party Later}
"... And that's what happened. Please don't be mad!"
Soul was completely numb. He didn't know what to think. On one hand he wanted to go on a rampage to find the bastard who almost hurt his mister. But on the other hand he promised Maka he would keep his cool.
"Soul? Nothing happened, I swear!" Maka pleaded, placing a hand on his chest. "I got out of there before he could do anything. Don't be mad."
"Do you remember where this dick lives?" Soul asked, the slightest hint of rage in his voice.
"Soul! You promised you wouldn't do anything!"
"Can I at least talk to the guy?"
"No, I would turn the 'talk' into a full blown fight." Maka reasoned.
"F-fine..." Soul mumbled. 'Damn it, Soul! You gave in to her again, but how can I say no to her when she's looking at me like that!?' He shouted at himself mentally.
"By the way, I have a question." Maka said, breaking Souls train of thought.
"Yeah, what is it?"
"Why were you so worried about me earlier? I mean you seemed pretty terrified." Maka stated.
Soul felt his face heat up. She would find out sooner or later anyway, so why not tell her now?
"It's because, well, I-I Iloveyou!" Soul said all in one breath.
"What was that, Soulie? I couldn't understand you." Maka said in almost a mocking tone.
"I said that I l-love you." Soul blurted out.
"Soul, you Baka! I love you too!" Maka exclaimed with a smile.
Without thinking, Soul pulled her closer to him and smashed their lips together. Maka squeaked in surprise and pushed back a little. They parted and Soul looked off to the side, not wanting to face Maka.
"That was out of line, I'm sor-" Soul was cut off by Maka gently pressing her lips to his.
He blinked and kissed back. Their mouths moved in perfect harmony with one another. After a while the two parted and rested their foreheads on each other's.
"I've wanted to do that for a while now." Soul admitted with his signature shark-tooth grin.
Maka giggled, "I never thought you would."
"Hey, Maka?"
"Yeah, Soul?"
"Where did you get the trench coat?"
"Oh, this? I sort of, stole it from Ryder's apartment..."
"Why?"
"I didn't really have any clothes on..."
"You were at that creeps house, WITHOUT CLOTHES?!" Soul exclaimed, a bewildered expression plastered on his face.
"I mean I had bra and panties," Maka mumbled.
"Jesus Christ, Maka," Soul scolded. "You have to be more careful."
"I can take care of myself, Soul. Don't worry." She said while standing. " We should probably get going, I'm sure the others are wondering where we are."
Soul nodded and stood. They began the long walk home, their hands intertwined with each other's.
Maka gasped and stopped walking.
"What's wrong?" Soul asked. His eyes drifted down to Maka's feet, which were bruised and bloody.
Soul scooped her up so he was carrying her bridal style.
"I can walk on my own you know." Maka protested.
"Not with your feet looking like that your not." Soul replied.
"But-" Maka started to say, but was silenced when her green eyes met his red ones.
"No, Maka."
For a little while, they walked in a comfortable silence.
"Hey, Soul?"
"Hm?"
"Does this mean we're dating now?" Maka asked timidly.
Soul thought for a moment before answering. "I guess, if you want to that is."
"Of course I want to date you, Baka!" She giggled tiredly. "And Soul? Can you not tell anybody about the whole Ryder thing?"
"Okay." Soul nodded.
Maka cuddled up in her new boyfriends chest. Maka's eyes closed and her breathing became steady, telling Soul that she had fallen asleep. As he walked, Soul thought about how the others would react when he told them that he and Maka were dating.
'Ha! That ought to be something!' He thought with a smirk on his face.<Authors Note>
