A/N: A bit of longer note just because I've been away for some long. basically I lost this chapter three times then had to redo it because I realized I was looking at the wrong episode. so, you can have some wholesome moments with the family. enjoy! :))
After our dance rehearsal, Haruhi and I returned home, placing our bags at the door. We sat together in the living room, silence surrounding us.
Haruhi let out a soft sigh, ruffling her own hair, "I hate going to events. Does he really believe that I can learn to waltz within a week?"
I smiled, moving to turn on the old stereo in the kitchen, "You'll be fine, I'm always here to help you, Ruhi."
I turned the knob until I got to the right station, the one that constantly played classical music 24/7. Haruhi let out a soft laugh as a familiar melody filled the air.
I took her hand in mine, lifting her up to her feet, "You'll be leading, okay?"
She furrowed her brows, looking up at me, "But you're taller than me?"
"Some of the girls could be taller than you," I explained, placing a hand on her shoulder, "You need to be prepared for that. "
It was clumsy at first, cautious steps fumbled around the small living room as soft bouts of laughter preparate the air. But the music rolled on, the dance drifted smoothly alongside.
Haruhi laid her head as my shoulder as we gently swayed to the tune. It was calm, nothing to disturb us. I couldn't remember the last time I had relaxed with Haruhi like this. I didn't know I had missed it so much until now.
A smiled graced her lips peacefully as she let out a soft giggle, "Do you... do you remember when Mom and Dad would dance together on the weekends when it was really early in the morning?"
I nodded, a chuckle escaping me, "Yeah, they'd be making pancakes with vanilla extract so the entire house smelled sweet for days. "
"Dad always stepped on Mom's toes."
"But she never once complained. "
"I miss her..."
"Me too."
There was a moment of comfortable silence where a word need not be spoken but heard nonetheless.
"Do you think she would be proud of me?"
I looked down at Haruhi, sighing at the way she tucked her head away, "Ruhi, She dedicated her entire life to you and me. She would be proud of how much of a strong women you've become."
Haruhi's sniffles didn't go unnoticed but I didn't mention one word of it, "Even though I managed get into debt?"
I laughed, ruffling her hair, "Even if you get into debt."
"Thanks, Zuki."
"Anytime."
Our moment was interrupted by soft sound of crying. We turned slightly to see Dad with tears running down his cheeks.
"God, you two had grown up so much," He murmured, taking each of our cheeks in each of his hands, "I can't believe it..."
I placed my hand over his, grinning, "You're gonna have with us for a little bit longer so don't start crying yet, Daddy, okay?"
He laughed, wiping his eyes, "You're right. I'm just so glad to have you guys. Love you both so much."
"We love you too, Dad," Haruhi smiled, kissing Dad's cheek.
We were brought into a tight hug that seemed to warm the entire house. I had truly forgotten what it felt like to be this close to my family. It was wonderful to experience it again, a feeling i would never tired of.
Dad soon pulled away with a smile that spread from ear to ear, "Now, how about we make to pancakes?"
I smiled, hiding a few of my own tears, "I'd like that a lot.
