AMARIS

We didn't wait for the rain to slow down or stop. Galloping along with the horses' stride through the harsh weather, I felt the water splashing at my side as their hooves come into contact with the ground. I pulled my cloak tighter with my right hand, and the other braced for safety around Trisna's waist. The horses trotted at a fast pace throughout night and day. There weren't any breaks or stops but we did slow down a few times to catch our breaths and let the horses take it easy for a while but we didn't dare to stop. All we wanted was to get back and stop the execution that might trigger a war.

Despite being worried about my family's well-being, I couldn't stop thinking about the first man I killed. I was overwhelmed with fury and resentment that I shoved the blade inside him myself.

That wasn't me.

That was someone I didn't recognize. I never thought I could kill a man with these bare hands.

I was exhausted. I was at my limit.

My sister suddenly appeared and saved me in her stead. I was chased away from my kingdom by the Tellurian king that conspired with my own wicked brother. I almost died at the hands of the most brutal assassin three times in a row. I battled against the queen of the dragons, and a genetically-enhanced monster ruined my victory party.

At this point, all I had were questions unanswered.

Yes. I know I'm originally from this world, and yet I still didn't know the reason why I was transported to another world and back here again.

All those who could give me answers were either dead, missing, or in a coma.

Thinking about it again only gave me headaches. I shook my head to forget all these anxieties.

Then, I noticed Val staring at me. His eyes were deeply glued on me, and studied my every action. He must still be surprised by how I acted earlier.

Even I was surprised myself.

My sister would never dare dirty her hands with blood but I, who just recently revealed my true identity, was entirely her opposite. I think everyone was stunned when I decided to kill that man.

Even if we forced him, I knew he wouldn't give us more useful information. But that wasn't the way I should have acted.

I didn't feel any regret or remorse when I killed him. It was more like I pitied myself because I had to stoop so low because of how aggravated I felt. I admit that I was weak, and I still am, which is why I got fooled easily and taken advantage of but that's where it ends because this will be the last time I will show any weaknesses.

When we arrived at the castle after two days, Princess Semira was busy assembling the army behind the borders. She stood atop the fortress where the archers were on the ready. She handed out orders like a piece of paper. The soldiers were bustling downstairs, building huge pikes to set aflame in case the gate gets destroyed. They were stationed in their places, and gripped their swords and shields tightly.

The king and queen came running when they saw us. Prince Talos followed behind them—a servant was pushing the wheelchair behind him. Queen Haria continued walking towards us even when the king and crown prince halted. Her palm came flying towards my cheek. Her face was red with madness. She cursed, "you dare come back here, you useless ingrate!"

I grasped my bruised cheek. Rihaan did the same.

Not a single word was heard from my side. Rihaan went in front of me, and covered me behind his back but I didn't hide behind him. Instead, I put my hand down and faced them with confidence.
