He heard his heart beat, and then he heard another's heart beat. Clear felt strange, as if he was about to go through something he had done before. He then looked around and then towards his brother, and he felt pain and sadness, and didn't know why. His heartbeat started to quicken, and he turned forward, ignoring the signs that the tragedy had already passed, believing that he could change it, even as he was pondering what it was. He then heard the howl of the thing that changed everything.
Wave then stated," Hey, do you think we may have gotten too far west. They said to try to avoid the west section of the town for some mutant monster that they where trying to hunt." Clear looked at his brother, and in a attempt to assure him, said," I'm sure that we'll be safe, so long as we get to the castle. There should be a road up ahead that leads straight to the castle." Wave then looked forward and smiled, saying," yeah, your right, like normal. Remember to let me get ya one of those pies that Killer keeps making."
Clear then said," You do realize what goes into one of those things right?" Wave than looked confused and asked,"No what does go into one of her pies?" Clear looked back and started to answer him when the wall next to them splintered into a explosion, and Clear watched as a yellow furred, pink eyed beast grab his brother's rear by it's teeth. The smell of blood and raw flesh began to perfume the air with its bitter scent.
Anger suddenly flushed through his system as he watched the beast turn towards him. Wave gave him the a face of pure terror, and that made Clear's decision for him. The beast then charged past him and pushed him out of the way, smacking him up against the wall, but not hard enough to hurt him. He then pulled himself to together before it could get too far away. He knew he couldn't let it get to far.
The beast was fast, but not fast enough for his wings, but he didn't fly high enough to clear the tops of the houses, for he didn't want to get spotted by the mares that were chasing him before. He followed it to the beginning of some clearing that stretched out into the lesser wilds of the town. Streams flowed through with water that had seen better days, now contaminated with vemon of the infected that drank from it. The bridges were all collapsed, and those that haven't collapsed were on the verge of doing so. The beast cleared them easily, but all Clear had to do was fly, but it seemed the beast started to notice that it was being followed.
Clear suddenly felt a sharp pain in his left wing, and he fell quickly to the ground. He landed in the water of the stream. That had him prevent sustaining much worse injuires than the scrape that he felt. He then climbed out of the stream and watched as the beast had it head up, and he watched as Wave became noting but a bulge in its neck, which moved down to its chest, and the finally it became a distended belly. He tired to move towards the beast, but it quickly looked at him and then left, moving towards a cabin that looked like some sort of mutated plant growth had broken it apart, yet held it together.
He stood there, dejected, defeated, and with a feeling of sorrow that he couldn't ignore. He watched the beast claw it's way into the cabin and disappear, and he just stood their, staring at the front of the cabin. A memory then flooded his head, but he couldn't figure how he got the memory, but there it was. He felt a sense of rejection and fear, and his heartbeat raced, and his hooves pumped towards a cabin that was well kept, beautiful, and picturesque. He felt like if he got in there that he would be safe. That was till the thing that was chasing him caught to him and knocked him down.
He turned to see a black figure witth red eyes hold itself over her, and I had a smile that he was quite familiar with. That was the smile of something that had jagged it's prey, and it was about to tear into his throat. That was till something knocked it off him, picked him up, and helped him to the cabin, where they promptly opened the door and entered. He then quickly closed and barred the door, and turned to look at the one that saved him. He then felt teeth penetrate his neck, but they didn't break open his treakia or his jugular vein. He then quickly gave a strong right hoof, effectively knocking him off, and then started to turn to run, but found himself back in reality.
It was the entrance of the cabin that he stood now. He stood confused, with the radio static going off in his ear. His heartbeat loudly, but it didn't feel like his, he then checked to see if he still had the wound. Finally a voice cut him out of his case, and it was one that he was happy to hear, but confused to hear as well.
"I'm alive, I repeat, I'm alive. I honestly don't know for how long though, it's dark and wet and it smells like vomit in here. I'm pretty sure if I didn't put on my mask right as she tossed me around in her mouth, I'd be very much dead, but I'm alive." The voice said through the static. Clear heard it, but couldn't believe his ears. He had just watched the beast swallow him whole, and yet somehow he could hear the voice.
"Please tell me I'm not hallucinating, because there was no way you could have made it." Clear said, but the voice replied," well, at least I know your alive, and I'm pretty sure I did survive, though I'd admit, she was rather gentle with those teeth of her, I don't think she cut me or hurt me at all, and I admit that there was blood, but it seemed to hers. Now with that out of the way, can you get me out of the stomach, it's sticky, and very unpleasantly tingly." Wave said.
"Don't worry, I'll get you out of there. Just hold on." Clear said as he started to make his way out of the room and into a long twisting hall that the mutated vegetation had created. Wave said,"I'll try to, see you soon, and hopefully not in the same situation as I am." Clear admired how calm his brother was, but then focused on the task of saving before he was turned into Wave soup, the gastric kind. Clear then started down the hall, looking around constantly to the smooth texture and swirling lines of the hall. The rooms that lined the halls had no doors, and had the staunch of decay. Quick looks into the room gave him just a inkling of what he was in.
Every one of the room had a body in it, and a mess of mutated flesh and dried blood. He looked away, after observing each one, but had he taken the time to truely search each room, he would have seen so much more. Each corpse had it's intestinal track, liver, heart, and other internal organs removed, and the remains of the abdomen where torn to shreds by teeth and claws. The face of each body was crushed and deformed, none of them could be identified if you tried. The mutated flesh twitched and and pulsed from one of the limbs of the bodies, and some bodies had mutated so much that you couldn't decent anything that would tell you that they use to be a pony. Another thing the bodies had in common, and on that should have told Clear something, was that all the bodies where stallions.
He continued to walk through the hall, looking back and forth into each room, till he made it to a bathroom of sorts. The curtains where torn up, the bathtub had large chunks removed and broken off, and the mirror and sink where broken and crushed. Blood was dried and caked on every surface, and there was pink hair in some of the cracks or the mirror. He also noticed the smell, which was rancid, but in a different way. He looked around the wreaked room and faced the broken mirror. His head suddenly hurt and the world flashed around him, and then he looked up again and saw that the mirror was repaired, and the bathroom was not destroyed. He then returned his gaze to the mirror, and saw not himself, but rather a teal eyed, pink maned, yellow furred pegasus mare staring back at him. He felt a moment of shock, but realized that he could move, despite the fact he could feel what she felt.
Suddenly he heard the door open, and he saw a grey furred, red maned unicorn with pink eyes. He felt her smile when she saw the unicorn, and then she proceeded to say,"well, Baker's Block, isn't it rude to enter a room without knocking?" The Unicorn, apparently named Baker, looked at her and smiled, responding with a,"well, I have to keep tabs on my favorite mare to save. After all, saving you has been the best thing that I've done since the outbreaks and the Fall. I honestly wouldn't know what I would do if I didn't have your kindness to look forward to." Baker said all that with a smile. She shared the smile in return. She then returned to looking in the mirror, but this time everything was different.
The bite wound on her neck stung, but barely bled. Her head hurt and her breathing was rapid and panicked, and the fear she felt was intense, but the pain she felt was even more so. Then she heard a voice, she recoiled and tried to hide in tub, using the curtains to conceal herself further. The voice then began again."Well now, that actually hurt. I guess it's true what they say, it's the quiet ones you have to be careful of. That being said, pain is a real turn on, you know. Don't worry, once you give up, it won't hurt as much." The stallion then proceeded to laugh. "You can't hide for long, after all, that wound on your neck gives off the scent of blood, and it's intoxicating. That being said, I'm sure I already know where you are." Hoof steps then got louder and louder and then stopped,"you ruined your shower curtain." The shower curtain opened, but there was nothing there.
He held up his hooves in response to the suddenness of what the memory led to, but saw that it was his own hooves, not the mare in those memories. He heard his heartbeat in his ears, and the feelings of terror, dread, and despair flooded him. He looked around to find himself in the ruined and shattered tub, and put his hoof to his head as he tried to shake the feelings off. "Come one now Clear," he said to himself,"you can't be spooning yourself like that. You have a brother to save after all." He then got up and began to move into and through the hall once more, his nerves now on edge. He couldn't shake off the feelings he had, and the fear he had gathered. He would have had more to worry about had he seen the blood stinger that had finally fallen out and began to wither away.
