Falling down the memory pit

Stuart was rushed into a hospital. His wounds fatal, if he were a regular human. However his body's resilience made him unable to pass on though he was struggling not to go insane over the misery of his being.
In his mind he was begging for the staff to just not even attempt to save him. Just to throw him into the vast ocean would be enough for him. At least there it would be quiet.
He kept drifting in and out of consciousness, as he laid listening to the doctors rushing to "save" him. He wondered if his saving would remain a trophy in their tiny minds, as a gift of their "skills". He was going to recover anyways. His sight, his head and body would be all the same. The process would repeat itself once again.
He started feeling light headed, and without a moment to think about it, he passed out.

"Stuart come back home"
"We're so proud of you"
"You don't need to achieve everything"
"We need you here, Stuart"

A quick beeping ran through his head. He felt thin linen over his body, on top of it laid a light cotton blanket. He couldn't see anything but he knew he was in a hospital bed. He sighed and attempted to move his body  but gave up after having a sharp pain run through his entire body all the way to his head.
Beep beep beep beep beep
He was slightly irritated by the beeping. Why couldn't someone take care of it? It reminded him of the.. factory.
The one where he and Kevin met for the first time.
He dug into his memories. Dug until the bell rang.
He threw the shovel onto the ground next to the hole he had been digging for the morning. It was quite deep and wide. Enough to fit in a coffin or two.
He started walking towards the cafeteria with a few workmates, Kevin included. They had gotten to know each other well over the duration of their work year. Kevin seemed like a smart guy to him. A bit too.. into himself but it was just a quirk of his character.
Kevin used annoyingly big words sometimes to  make fun of their not-so-bright group but Stuart viewed it as harmful teasing. He'd also talk to Stuart about their coworkers and bosses. It was rarely anything good. Mostly weird personal things like secret hobbies or behaviours.
For example Kevin had somehow found out that Paul from group 4 was obsessed with his nails to the point where he couldn't function properly at all if they weren't cut according to his standards. Some kind of obsession, he guessed
Stuart felt special when Kevin told him those things. Felt like he was different from the others and the smartest person wanted to hang out with him.
He had a very good time working at the factory. Though it was only managing the machinery or digging holes. He had an interesting time with Kevin there.
Time flew quickly. A bit too quickly.

The layoffs begun. They were told that the factory couldn't keep all of them working there as it broke some sort of working condition law.
Everyone was biting their nails (minus Paul), waiting for the letters deciding their fate as workers. Stuart didn't want himself or Kevin getting laid off because he didn't want to be jobless or bored. He didn't want to depend on anyone or be completely braindead for a good part of his life.
However his wishes were not respected and he received the letter telling him that he was being laid off his duties, or more  simply that:
he should go pack his things and fuck off.
He felt like he was going to break down. He felt as he had no purpose anymore. He wouldn't be seeing his friends or Kevin so much anymore. He hated the thought of being lonely for the entire week and having an hour or two of the weekend to spend time with his friends.
It's when he expressed these anxieties to Kevin, he proposed an idea: they should move in together.
Kevin explained that it would he easier on Stuart as he didn't have to pay rent, and easier on himself as he could ask Stuart to do some tasks while he was at work. Stuart thought it was fair enough and accepted Kevin's offer.

Slowly their relationship began to build itself off the fact that they got to see each other at the early hours of he day and late hours of the night. Seeing each other full of things that would be deemed faults is what eventually lead to them being intimate with each other. They didn't have to worry about being proper in front of each other anymore. There was no one around to see anyways so what was the point.
They had a lot of fun for the first few months

until things went sour.
The workload on Kevin's part was getting bigger and bigger now that there were so little minions left. Their break-time was being cut as much as possible and their groups being dissembled to make them more efficient on single tasks.
That's when Kevin's bad habits got worse.
He started being more arrogant and rude with Stuart and eventually started even drinking. It didn't seem like anything at first. Just exhaustion, Stuart thought.
But when the first threat of violence came into action, Stuart knew deep down he made a horrible decision. Though he didn't admit it.
He was tired and upset. Stuart understood those feelings and emphasized with him.

He felt his ears ring as he was laying on the bed next to Kevin, trying to keep quiet as he weeped. He only knew one thing at that moment, he didn't want to wake Kevin up. He had a lot of work, work and work.
He felt the ringing evolve into beeping.
He tried holding his breath to suffocate his sadness.
The beeping got louder.
He felt immense pressure on his chest.
The beeping got louder.
He felt as an electrical wave shoot through his chest.
The beeping got louder.
He let out a tearful breath
The beeping stopped.
His vision was hazy. Like a red mist had settled around him. He looked at his hands. Dry, with bitten nails.
He felt his head ache like something was eating it's way out.
He moved his hands back down to lay at his sides

And felt a hand being laid atop his.
