THREE

Stepping through the main entrance of Five Guys, Lexy sees that her two best friends, Mila Lawson and Jessica Laney, were already seated in the corner booth, patiently waiting on her to arrive. When she slides into the booth next to Mila, she sees a plateful of fries sitting in between them. "I thought you were on a diet, Mila?" Lexy asks, snatching a fry from the plate.

"Um...Well..." Mila then sighs and rolls her eyes. "Whatever. I don't need to loose weight anyway." she says and crams a handful of fries into her mouth. Mila was right though. Mila was 5'7, and weighed 125 lbs wet. She had black hair that was fixed into loose curls, her skin wasn't exactly pale, but it definitely wasn't tan, unlike Jessica. Mila had blue eyes that changed to green sometimes. Lexy and Jessica came to the conclusion that Mila's eyes only turned green when she was mad.

"Now explain it to me, Lex. Why do you want to talk to Luke?" Jessica asks while dipping a fry into her chocolate milk shake.

"I want to know what they were fighting about, and why Brydan left..." A lump then starts forming in Lexy's throat at the mention of his name.

"I'm sorry, Lexy, I'm not trying to be mean, but that won't bring Brydan back." Mila says quietly. There was a long awkward pause, and then Mila backtracks. "No, I shouldn't have said that that...I just don't get it."

"It's okay." Lexy says. "I'm not exactly sure why I want to know either, but something tells me I need to...But lets drop it for now, I'm gonna go order some food, I'm starving."

Lexy approached the counter and ordered a burger, fries, and a Coke. Lexy hoped that it would take a while to get her food, she didn't want to go back over to her friends and talk to them about what they were about to do. She wasn't even sure she wanted to do it anymore. Lexy was worried what his answer would be, or worse, would he even give her an answer at all? Luke was obviously the reason why Brydan had left in a hurry. But the question that was eating away at Lexy was why they were fighting. She had never noticed any tension or anything between them in the past. She wasn't even sure if she had ever seen Luke and Brydan talking to each other before.

When Lexy approached the booth she overheard Jessica and Mila talking about Brydan's death. "Its just so awful how it happened..." she heard Mila say in a disgusted tone.

The more appropriate term the cops were using was homicide. Lexy shuddered at the thought of the word. How could anyone ever hurt or much less kill Brydan? He was always a good guy, and Lexy couldn't think of one person who hated him enough to end his life. Mila then sees Lexy approaching and lowers her eyes, dropping the subject.

As she slid back into the booth Lexy's mind went back to yesterday when her dad told her how he was killed.

Her dad had said that a late night hiker and his wife found Brydan's body in the woods alongside a hiking trail at Cooper's Furnace. The wife was the first one the notice the body. She had a flash light and as she was walking along her flashlight caught a glimmer of Brydan's Rolex, and as they approached it closer they noticed it was more than a glimmer of light, it was his body. His body was so badly damaged that the cops were unsure if it was even him. His parents were the ones who had to identify the body.
