Momo woke up in a panic. She remembered a fire and soot covering the window that allowed her to see her parents. She called out for them, hoping it was a nightmare. She couldn't see a thing.
She touched her face trying to see why she couldn't see where she was. There was nothing there. So she was either blinded or it was dark.
She had good spacial awareness and would be able to find the light switch if she were in her own house. She had memorized where everything was.
"Mom?! Dad?!" She cried out again.
She had her hands in front of her. She walked directly into a wall. She didn't know what was going on.
She turned around and walked until she bumped into another wall. It was legitimately dark and she was in an empty room. The only thing in the room was the mattress she slept on.
Momo began sobbing. She automatically assumed her parents weren't there. They didn't answer her and she couldn't hear their breathing. They weren't in the fire so she assumed they were fine and hadn't been kidnapped.
What day was it?
It was Friday when she passed out. Late Friday night as well.
It was Saturday.
------
(Y'all I'm an American who played soccer a few years ago. I'm calling it soccer not football.)
Saturday morning, Tenya was getting ready for his soccer game. Tensei was texting Momo's parents trying to see if they were going to drop her off. He had to get to the fields around ten so he had to get an answer soon or they'd have to grab her.
Murielle wasn't responding to any messages. Maybe she was taking Momo.
"Hey, Tenya! Can you call Momo for me? Her mom isn't picking up."
"I did, she isn't answering." Tenya sighed. He had gotten dressed in his jersey, which was really just a cotton tshirt, a pair of basketball shorts, and his knee pads, shinguards, cleats, and he had his water bottle in hand.
"I guess her mom is dropping her off? Murielle is nice enough to make time for her. It's weird that she isn't replying."
The drive to the game was simple. Just breakfast from McDonalds and eating in the car.
When Tenya arrived at the field, he was genuinely nervous. His glasses constantly got broken during games but he was more nervous because Momo may not show up. What if she didn't wanna come. He knew sports wasn't her thing. He just invited her so they could spend time together afterwards.
The longer the hourlong game went on, the more Tenya began to worry. Tenya was trying his best and trying to keep a smile on his face. He wasn't doing too good and Tensei could see it. The ball came directly towards him and instead of kicking it into the enemy goal, he stood there and let someone else take it from him.
"The hell?" Were the whispers coming from the crowd. He was usually amazing, so this sudden change was new and odd. He was twelve years old, a bit older than everyone else. Most of the kids were eleven or ten. The youngest kid was doing better than him and he was the goalie who only had to keep the ball away from their goal.
The coach decided to pull him out during a timeout. She was tired and didn't want this. He was always in the entire game because of his skill. He was never allowed to use his quirk because that would be illegal and their team could be disqualified if they used his quirk, or anyone's quirks, which made him go faster. The coach put her son in the game and handed Tenya orange slices. He was sad. The game was almost over and his friend hadn't made it. He was also upset that he only got on goal in and that was when he was still assured about her coming over. Now he lost all hope in them arriving.
Tenya's eyes watered a bit. He was absolutely shocked. Her dad said she could come and he would be able to see Aunt Murielle again. It has been a while since he had seen her. She always had to work late whenever he came over.
If it was ok for her to come, then why wasn't she there? Maybe there were other plans that came up out of nowhere? That would make him feel better.
Instead of doing something with the rest of the team, like their little team shout, Tenya was quiet. He put his hand in the center and threw it up like everyone else unit he quietly shouted their team name while everyone else said it energetically.
When he got over to the parents side, everyone tried to say very encouraging things. They could see he was visibly in a bad mood. Tensei rubbed his back on the way back to the car.
"You ok? I know it's gotta suck. I thought they were coming too..." Tensei said with a smile, trying to cheer him up. "There's probably a very good reason."
There was a very good reason.
"You want food? Again?" He laughed, remembering that they had just eaten an hour ago. He usually got hungry after his games because of how much he moved around. This time? Tensei had to ask.
Tenya just nodded. He wanted to "stress" eat. It was more sad eating than stress eating.
Tensei brought him to a cafe near the field. It was kinda bland and it looked like it was on purpose. It was monochrome, mainly with black, grey, and white only. Tenya made a comment about it matching his mood.
They ate brunch while talking quietly. Most of the people there were working quietly, trying to get work done while eating their breakfast or lunch, or both.
The tv in the corner was playing the news. Tensei would glance up to it every few minutes as Tenya talked.
"So, what do you wanna do after this?" Tensei asked. He had every intent on spoiling Tenya after this. There were heroes on patrol in the area, a few of them passing by the cafe window. One was stopped to get autographs in front of the cafe. It was the newer, number nine hero, Ryukyu. She was stopped by a few kids that wanted her signature.
Tenya looked at her and just paused... She seemed like the kind of hero that Momo would like. She's flat out admitted she's into being a hero for saving people and would prefer a different rank than the one she had. Momo might like her.
He looked at Tensei and Tensei was staring back at him.
"Go ahead." Tensei smiled. Tensei pulled out a piece of paper from work. It was useless so...
As Tenya went out to get the hero's autograph, Tensei watched the news. Or at least, he tried to... the owner kept flipping through the Channels and it only seemed like they were playing the News as well. The news had the same topic.
Tragedy
"Hey can you go back?" Tensei asked. The owner sighed and backtracked.
The headline was Breaking News.
"Last night a tragedy struck the country. A small mistake became a large fire in only a quick minute, possibly killing one and heavily injuring two."
Tenya walked back inside with a smile on his face, only for his smile to stop. He looked at the tv and saw the headline.
"Paramedics have found the unconscious bodies of Murielle Yaoyorozu," Tensei lifted a hand to his mouth, shocked, "who is currently going through surgeries as the fire left her unrecognizable, and August Yaoyorozu who is currently unresponsive. Officers and Paramedics have yet to find their twelve year old daughter, Momo Yaoyorozu."
"Tenya, let's go home."
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
