"Though you might've already heard about them, I'm still going to go over them," the cream colored tom walked up to a set of red berry bushes with a gingery she-cat following behind him.
"Oh? And what would that be?" the she-cat slightly tilted her head in a questioning manner.
The tom softly chuckled with amusement at the she-cat's question. He pawed at the berries that hung low to the ground, which knocked them off the bush without issue. He lightly gathered them into a small pilr before presenting them and introducing them to his tagalong, "Death berries!"
The she-cat leaned down and stared at them with wonder, as she had for every herb and berry he had shown her throughout the week. She rolled one away from the pile and observed it, "They're poisonous, right?"
The tom smiled, "Yes, they are, at least for us. Even so, knowing the identity of something harmful is beneficial in the long run."
"Of course," she mewed in agreement. She rolled it around a bit more, then squished it down and lookrd over the inner contents. "You said they're poisonous to us, but what are they not poisonous to?"
"Well," he gathered his knowledge for a moment. "Technically, rhe flesh of the berry is edible, even for us. In fact, birds are the only ones that can devour the berry entirely, since they spread the seeds around."
"So they are useful?" she sat up and faced him, waiting for his answer.
"One can argue that their poisonous parts are useful, but yes it does have proper medicinal properties that we can use," he mewed. "We can use them for some infections, but don't expect to use them too often, YellowPaw. I'm mostly telling you this so you can quell panic in who thinks they'll die without eating the seed."
"Makes sense," YellowPaw softly chuckled. "Queens can rest a bit more easily knowing their kits aren't gonna die from that."
"Exactly," he purred.
YellowPaw smiled, content that her mentor was in his element, chatting excitedly about his passion that others wouldn't understand. She glanced around, trying to find something else to learn about.
"Seed?"
The tom perked up as YellowPaw walked a couple tail lengths away, stopping next to some sets of blue flowers and asked, "What's this?"
Seed's insides fluttered with happiness and pride as he walked over to tell her about Borage.
