The Beach

Zoey's POV

When we arrived at the coffee shop; I was still trying to figure out why Derek had acted like he did. Kira was silent the whole way here. She still wasn't saying anything. I think she might be trying to figure out what happened. It was not like Derek to act like that.

Jake stood up holding his fist in the air. "Next year we are definitely going to beat you four," Jake stated confidently.

I look at Jake curiously raising a brow. "Kira didn't tell you guys?" I asked her.

Zane pulls Jake back down in his seat looking at me confused. "Tell us what?" Zane asked curiously.

I look at Kira raising a brow. "Are you going to tell them?" I questioned.

Kira shakes her head like I had just pulled her from her thoughts. She looks at the guys smiling sheepishly. "Oh right," Kira answered.

She had forgotten even though I don't blame her. She turns to the guys. "Today was our last competition. We have decided that we are going to leave our music behind. I don't want to explain why it's to complicating to explain," Kira informed meeting each of their gazes.

After Kira said that no one said anything. The silence was making everything awkward. I couldn't take the silence anymore. "Do you guys want to go to the beach after we leave here?" I asked.

The guys all nod in reply. "Sure," the guys answered.

Chloe and Krystal got the biggest smiles nodding in reply. "Yes!!" Krystal and Chloe screamed.

Kira was half paying attention but gave a nod in reply. I noticed the whole time we were at the coffee shop Kira was doing nothing but spacing out the whole time. "So, what happened at the concert no hard feelings right guys?" Chloe asked them.

Zane looks at Chloe shrugging in response. "No hard feelings, still mad that you beat us though," Zane stated.

Krystal looks at them raising a brow. "Are you guys going to compete next year?" Krystal asked the guys.

Derek looks between all of us shaking his head. I noticed he would look at Kira occasionally a little worried. "Probably not if you girls aren't going too. It would be no fun really without you girls there. Besides I like hearing Kira sing," Derek stated.

Kira looks at Derek confused. "Wait what, is that why you guys competed with us all the time?" Kira questioned.

It seems that pulled her out of her thoughts. Seems if Derek says anything about her or any of us, she seems to come out of her thoughts. "Yes, that is why," Derek answered Kira.

Kira rolls her eyes in response. "I don't know if I should feel flattered or beat the crap out of you guys," Kira stated.

Zane puts his hands up in defense. "Come on Kira your voice is really pretty," Zane tried to reason.

Kira shakes her head looking away. "Whatever you guys say, but I don't believe that for a second," Kira stated.

Jake shrugs in response. "I can tell you that's why you would always win those contests against everyone you competed against," Jake told her.

Kira had a look on her face saying she didn't believe the guys. I don't blame her though who would, but what if the guys were right. I notice that everyone had finished their drinks. So, we ordered another round of drinks for the table. After we finish our drinks, and after hours of talking. We all head to the beach.

When we get to the beach the girls and I took our flip flops off. The guys took their shoes and socks off. We walk down to the shoreline. The ocean was calm. Chloe was walking with Zane, and they were talking about the competition. Jake and Sam were walking and talking. Derek was walking next to Kira. I was walking with Krystal, but I was concerned about Kira. She is my best friend and I hated seeing her like this.

I didn't break my gaze from Derek and Kira. "Do you think it was kind of strange earlier with the way Derek was acting around Kira?" I asked Krystal curiously.

Krystal looks at me confused. "What do you mean?" Krystal asked curiously.

I look at her shaking my head. "After the concert," I replied.

Krystal has a look of realization of what I meant and shrugs. "Oh, you mean the way Derek grabbed Kira's wrist. It was strange. Derek has never acted like that especially that way to Kira," she questioned/replied.

Then she looks off at the water. "But I wouldn't worry about it. It was probably nothing," she told me truthfully.

I nod in reply looking back towards Derek and Kira. "Yeah, you're probably right," I replied.

I look at Kira and see that she isn't even talking to Derek. I was wondering what was wrong. She couldn't still be trying to figure out what happened earlier. Then I hear her sigh. She turns to Derek and smiles. Derek puts his arm around her shoulders to comfort her. He was like a brother to her; even though Kira does have a brother. She doesn't like to talk about him, but I remember him very well. His name is Eric and he had light brown hair and dark blue eyes. He reminded me of Kira with her light brown hair. Only Kira had light blue eyes. Kira and I have been like sisters since we ran away. I'm glad that I have Kira if it wasn't for her, I would still be living at that house with my parents who acted like I didn't exist. I just wish Eric wouldn't have left his sister like that. How could he leave her with those people? They didn't care about her. "I think we should head back to the shack," she told us turning to meet all of our gazes.

Then all of a sudden Kira falls towards the ground unconscious. Derek had managed to catch her in time. I run over to Derek and Kira looking at the unconscious Kira. "Let's get her back to the shack," I ordered.

Then we all hear a wolf howl. "Get her back to the shack, Derek. We will take care of the wolf," Krystal ordered.

Derek nods in reply and picks Kira up. He took off running for the shack. Jake, Sam, Zane, Krystal, Chloe, and I shift and run towards where we heard the wolf howl. We follow the scent to see a black wolf. Chloe growls and tackles the wolf to the ground. The wolf gets up and growls at Chloe. The two of them start going after each other's throats. When Zane cuts in. "That's enough, Chris what are you doing here?" Zane questioned the wolf.

Chris growls stepping back. "I was following the scent of a wolf. I found it but it hasn't shifted yet," he answered.

I look at Chris confused. "What do you mean it hasn't shifted yet," I questioned.

Chris rolls his eyes growling. "Just what I said it hasn't shifted yet. However, it is about too," he informed us.

Jake raises a brow looking at Chris. "Who is this new shifter?" Jake questioned.

Chris shook his head not looking away from Krystal, Chloe, and I. "I don't know, but you guys might know. I have to go my dad will be wondering where I am," he answered.

Before anyone could say anything further, he was gone. "Okay, who was that?" I questioned.

Sam looks at me apologetically. "Sorry Zoey we can't tell you," Sam answered.

I narrow my eyes at Sam growling. "Why can't you tell us?" I questioned.

Zane growls at me turning his back to me. "Because, that's for the guys and I to know; not you three," Zane stated.

I roll my eyes with letting out an annoyed sigh. "Whatever let's get back to the shack. Derek is probably wondering what's taking so long," I replied.

The six of us run back to the shack to see Derek has a fire going. We shift back and get dressed in spare clothes. "Did you find the wolf?" Derek questioned.

Jake nods in reply. "It was Chris," Jake answered as we all sit around the fire.

Derek looks at Jake confused. "What was he doing out here?" Derek questioned.

Jake shakes his head shrugging at him. "He said he was looking for rogues," he answered.
