Always and forever, each moment with you
is just like a dream to me that somehow came true

Red roses, teddy bears, love letters, and couples.
I couldn't see the meaning behind all of it as I aimlessly walked on the pavement, looking at the cafés and restaurants that were getting ready to accept all the guests coming to celebrate their special day.
For me, it was a day like any other. Full of ordinary, everyday routines. As couples called it: Valentine's Day.
Everyone was talking about it at work, sharing their plans and gift surprises. It was making me feel lonely.
I have spent the last few years alone on this day, just like any other, and even though it seemed meaningless to me, there was still a speck of hope somewhere in my heart that it wouldn't feel like this if I had a lover.
I always wanted that special someone who would truly care about me and make me happy with every day that passed and sadly, boys these days were cruel and uncool.
This is why I haven't had much luck in my love life so far. Not many guys have ever put much interest in me, which was fine until it wasn't.
At twenty-four, one would expect me to have a boyfriend and think of future kids and possibly marriage. I was nowhere near that path. I wanted the right person for things like that and not just some boy who was afraid of responsibility and would eventually flee to find someone less complicated.
It was hard enough watching a bunch of my friends go through ugly breakups and put up with things that were so unacceptable in a relationship. It wasn't what I wanted for myself.
Once I reached my apartment, I put my shoes and jacket away before going to the kitchen and dropping the groceries on the counter. I planned on sorting them out later because making myself some pancakes was the first thing on my list. I haven't had breakfast yet and it was a perfect opportunity to take it to my bed.
I still had a few long hours before I had to go and pick up my niece from school. She had spent the night at my place because my sister had an early meeting and couldn't take her, so she asked me to do it instead.
Once I had my pancakes ready, I sauntered off to my bedroom and set the plate on my nightstand before walking over to the window to open the blinds. It was a sunny day, which brought me a little joy as it lightened up the whole room.
I nestled in my bed and took a few bites of my pancakes, having the sweetness fill me up.
Plenty of time was reserved for me, so I picked up my small notebook and opened a fresh page to litter it with my thoughts. Ever since I could remember, I loved writing. My notes consisted of daydreams about lovers, cute scenarios I wanted to experience someday, and maybe a poem here and there if the inspiration was hovering.
In any way that I felt like I could express myself best.
Today, I felt like writing about a thought I had earlier when I was outside. I wrote about how it would feel to have someone bring me on a date on Valentine's day. Maybe my thoughts of it would change and I would finally find the missing piece of a meaning behind it and not think of it as silly.
There was no way to tell what life was planning for me, but I wanted to experience it at least once.

I walked down to the reception desk a little after noon, seeing Luke, who was the doorman here ever since I moved in. In the past couple of years we've become good friends.
"Hey, Luke." I greeted, placing my arms on top of the counter. "Any mail for me?"
"No mail, but I've got something else." He smiled, making my brows scrunch in confusion as he walked to the back. Within seconds, there was a large bouquet of flowers placed in front of me, a letter tucked to the side.
"These are for me?" I asked, looking back an forth from the flowers and to Luke.
"Yeah. They were delivered about half an hour ago."
"Any idea who sent them?"
"No, not really. I was about to ask who's the special someone."
"I'll get back to you when I find out." I chuckled and picked up the bouquet. Luke was quick to walk around his desk and press the elevator button for me.
"Thank you." I beamed and walked in.
For the whole way back to my apartment, I felt a special type of feeling in my chest. I've never received flowers before, so it was all very new and exciting. I set the flowers down on the kitchen counter, observing them for a moment.
They had a lovely smell and I never realized it coud be so noticeable in the air as I stood beside them. The bouquet was very colorful, which I liked, but only recognized tulips, daisies and gerberas alongside some other flowers.
I took the card from the side that it was tucked in, curious to who remembered me on this day and when my eyes scanned over the neat handwriting, my heart skipped a beat...
