The bell sounds throughout the empty halls of the school, which pretty soon flood with students. I approach my locker, packing my bag with a few textbooks; hopefully I can squeeze in some studying or something tonight when I get home. Zipping up my bag, I shut and lock my locker.
"Boo" a voice says beside me.
I jump slightly, knocking my shoulder on the metal lockers as it clangs quietly.
"Reggie!" I say startled as he laughs loudly. "I thought we were meeting outside" I continue, smiling a bit.
"Welllll I couldn't wait" Reggie replies, smiling even wider.
"Alright alright let's go."
Together we leave school, and I have no idea where we're walking.
, but I follow him anyway. Soon enough w find ourselves near the beach.
"The beach? I love it here!" I smile.
"Me too! The beach was the most common place the guys and I would busk, it's where a lot of our fans discovered us" Reggie explains.
"This is where mum used to always come take us. Julie and I used to run around playing tag. I would win obviously." I say with a chuckle. "And Carlos was so tiny still, he would lay on the towel and I remember Julie wanted to bury him once."
"Wow your family sounds amazing" Reggie claims.
"Well I mean yeah...it was even better when mum was here" I mumble, gazing down at the sand, and distracting myself by inspecting different grains of sand.
"Yeah I bet" Reggie replies, not knowing what to say.
A few moments pass with silence, with me gazing at the sand and Reggie gazing at the sea. "Come on let's go find a place to sit" he suggests as he slowly looks around at me.
I respond with a nod as we both walk along the beach and find a place in the sand to sit.

Reggie's POV
We arrive at a good spot and I gesture for y/n to sit down, then sitting beside her.
"So tell me about your family" I inquire, gazing at her. She seems so invested when she talks about her family. I mean yeah it's not the best that her mum passed away...but I love listening to her talk about her family., her face kind of changes expression, like she's imaging and reliving her memories. Not to mention I feel like if I'm going to find her spark, that's a good place to start. I'm just glad I got her out of her beloved textbooks.
"Alright" she replies, laughing into stories from her childhood.
From what she tells me, she has always a role model for her siblings, and that become even more so when their mother passed. The stories she tells me puts a slight smile on her face and I love it.
"Awww you're smilinggg" I mock her, laughing and smiling at her.
This makes her blush and she looks down immediately, to which I respond with lifting her chin up.
"No no it's a good thing" I reassure her, smiling. "You seem the happiest when you relive your memories."
"Yeah I guess I am. These days not much happens that's worth remembering" she replies.
I dramatically rest my hand on my heart. "Wow y/n I'm not memorable, I'm offended!"
"Well at least not until cute ghosts appeared in mum's studio" she rambles off.
"I'm kidding- wait you think I'm cute?" I question, cocking an eyebrow. "Also we prefer musical spirits, not ghosts."
She blushes even more. "Yeah yeah whatever..." she mumbles. "Anyway tell me about your family? You know so much about me and I feel like I don't know much about you."
"Well, there's not much to really say" I reply. It's true- my family was boring. Not many happy stories..
"C'mon there has to be something" she eggs me on.
"Alright.. Well I was an only child, and well let's say I didn't have the best relationship with my parents. They worked pretty much all day, from the day they finished their maternity leave. Not to mention they were always arguing. I was carted off to my grandparent's house. I didn't mind in the slightest as a kid though, I loved my grandparents. And my uncle lived there. My dad's younger brother wasn't liked by many others in my family, all his siblings had pretty much disowned him, all because he wasn't academic. School wasn't for him at all, but that was ok to him because he had music. It was his dream to make music with his band, and to play at the orpheum. I got my love for music from him. We had a lot in common we did, we weren't necessarily school smart, but we had a passion. A passion for music. Me wanting a guitar for my birthday was the last straw for my parents and they stopped leaving me there, and by this time I was at school, so forced me to have a babysitter, which I tried to convince them I didn't need. They didn't listen of course- they never listened to me."
"Oh Reggie.." y/n replies.
"You don't have to say anything y/n" I sigh.
"Did you get to see your uncle when you were older? You must have!" She insistes.
"Well, my parents never let me see him. Thought he was a bad influence. Them being lawyers and all, they wanted me to grow up to be the same, or at least have a stable occupation that wasnt music. But then I found out my uncle was in hospital.." I choke up, looking away from y/n.
"I'm so sorry..." she mutters, looking up at me.
"No it's ok, don't worry about it" I reply. "It was all ages ago anyway, I mean, it was 20 years ago. I mean the time I...you know...they were filing for a divorce."

Y/N's POV
"Oh my god Reggie..." I whisper, looking into his eyes. "That's so...I'm so sorry..."
He brushes it off, waving his arm around a bit. "D-don't worry about it, that was ages ago. Besides, all that matters now is that I'm with the guys..and making music."
"Yeah" I mumble subconsciously, not really knowing what I'm agreeing to.
"Anyways sorry I didn't mean to throw a pity party, I'm ok now see" Reggie states as he smiles dorkily, except minus his usual energy.
"I don't believe you but ok ghost" I reply, smiling at him slightly.
After that we spend ages making conversation and discussing different things, from meaningful to the most random like how Reggie finds it unlucky to wear socks on Wednesday, so has always refused to his whole life? After something that happened when wearing socks on a Wednesday that I haven't been able to squeeze out of him yet. I actually start to become distracted from the depressing conversation we had earlier, and I think he does too. He is actually so fun to spend time with, and is smarter than everyone gives him credit for. I don't know what I initially thought about him but whatever it was, is not who he really is at all. He's different...a good different, obviously.
"Y/N?" Reggie interrupts my thoughts.
"Uh yeah?" I come back to reality and look at him, noticing his dim translucent glow in the evening light.
"It's starting to get dark now, you wanna head back?" he asks.
"Oh, yeah sure" I agree, looking out into the distance to catch a last glimpse of the sunset.
He reaches his hand out in an offer to help me up.
"You sure you have enough ghost strength to do that?" I ask.
"Only one way to find out" he chuckles as I take his hand and he is able to help me up.
"What do you know, you are strong Reginald" I snicker.
"Oh yeah I work out sometimes" he replies smirking and mockingly flexing his muscles. I mean he did it as a joke...but he does have biceps let me tell you that.
"The sunset is beautiful" I mention, starting a conversation after a few moments of walking in silence.
"It is, kind of like you" Reggie mutters, blushing.
I start blushing too, "thanks..."
He stutters a bit, unsure of what to say, and so do I. He eventually asks "what was your best memory of your mother?"
"Well honestly...it's playing music with her. It was my first passion...I lived for it. Julie got her interest in music from watching mum and I play-"
"Woah!! All this time I presumed you couldn't play...but I'm not surprised!! Why didn't you tell us before?" Reggie rambles excitedly, with a twinkle in his eye. He loves music alright.
"Because it's a chapter of my life I'm not opening again. It's over, my passion died with mother..."
"No a real passion can't die like that, that's not how it works Y/N. Come on please can we play together? I wanna hear you sing!" Reggie insists.
"Oh I...I don't really sing. That was Julie's thing and I never stepped on her moment. I played guitar, and wrote songs" I explain.
"So that guitar in the studio..."
"Is mine, I just haven't had enough courage to touch it since..." I trail off, looking at my feet then back up realising we were home. "Anyways like I said that chapter of my life is over, and I'm not opening it again. Thank you so much for tonight Reggie it was amazing, I'll come see you guys in the studio tomorrow morning before school ok?" I smile weakly, going to hug him but having my hands go right through.
"Right. Ghost." I mumble. "Goodnight then" I hastily walk inside and head to my room.
"Musical spirits!" I notice Reggie calls out as I leave.
What I don't notice though is the wide smile that's plastered on his face.
"That's what the spark is" he whispers to himself.
