They awoke early the next morning, their bodies used rising before the sun to get to work on time. Natalie stretched languidly, pressing her body against Will's and wrapping her arms around his neck as she relaxed. He smiled tiredly at her, pulling her closer by the waist to kiss her good morning.
"We really suck at taking things slow." Natalie blushed, memories of last night flooding her mind.
"It's been over a month." Will chuckled. "Plus we've known each other for years." He kissed her again, moving his arms to cup her face with his hands. "I don't regret a thing."
"Me either." Nat sighed contentedly.
"I've um –" Will cleared his throat. "I've never had a night like that before."
Natalie cocked an eyebrow, and Will laughed. "I mean you know me, I'm hardly a virgin but –" he paused, searching for the right words. "I don't think I've ever experience anything that felt so right."
Natalie paused briefly, she was inclined to agree with him. Everything with Jeff, from the early days of their relationship to the time they had been married, had felt so pressured. He was always between deployments and they had such limited time, they had always been so focussed on maximising time with each other and making the most of every last second. She had loved him, adored him, wanted to spend forever with him – but it was so intense.
Her feelings for Will, as new as they may be, were no less intense – but there was something different to the way they moved together, the way they fit. There was no pressure, no nagging voice in the back of her mind that reminded her that soon he would be off again, soon she would be waking up alone. She liked it, she really liked it.
"It does, we're a good fit." Nat agreed.
"A perfect fit." Will corrected, pressing a hot kiss on her lips.
"Slow down there, doc." Natalie teased, pressing her lips to his neck, nipping at the skin between words. "Don't you think it's a little," nip "unscientific" kiss "to make" nip "sweeping statements" kiss "like that?"
Will rolled them over, so he was on top, their bodies pressed against each other. "We should definitely repeat the experiment." He joked, as he trailed kisses, down her neck and bare chest. "We need an n greater than 1 to come to conclusions like that."
"Dr Halstead," Nat gasped as Will moved further south. "I could not agree more.
Midday found the two doctors sprawled on the couch, Will shirtless and Nat wearing his shirt from the night before. They'd made French toast together, laughing as Will managed to almost up end the egg everywhere, and they managed to burn their first attempt because they could hardly focus on anything but making out with each other, and were now lounging happily together, flicking through channels.
A sudden, shrill beep from across the apartment, startled them both.
"I think that's my phone." Natalie groaned, rolling to her feet. Will admired her quietly as she walked to her room, distracted from his channel hopping.
"It's Helen." Natalie announced, as she returned, brow furrowed. "She and Jeff's dad seem to have gotten food poisoning from the place they went for dinner last night."
Will sat up straighter. "Is Owen okay?"
"Yeah totally fine but they've had to cancel their plans for the weekend and Helen's asked if I can pick him up." She sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I am so sorry Will, I really wanted us to spend the weekend together."
Will jumped to his feet, and reached for her hands. "Hey, this isn't your fault." He kissed her forehead, and smiled, an idea already forming in his mind. "Listen, if you're still up for spending the weekend together we can – we just have to factor little man into our plans."
