The town had successfully defended the forest from the goblins, but many were wounded. Arvid and Tyra had come off with only minor injuries and Tyra had officially decided that she had  to join the Paladins and help against the goblins. She ran to her parents a few days later and proposed her idea.

"Tyra..." Elin looked like she was trying to find a way to tell Tyra no. "It's dangerous. You're only 17."

Tyra rolled her eyes. "I could spend more than 2 years trying to figure out about everything dad has and getting some armor with those gorlock scales and trying to help out the village all at the same time."

Arvid looked at Elin and grinned. "I knew we raised a fine little warrior." He turned to Tyra. "Tell you what, little bear—we spend a while training to fight the goblins, then you get out there and get rid of those beasts!"

"Yes!" Tyra cried out.

"No!" Elin barked at the same time.

"C'mon, Elin," Arvid said, slinging his arm around his wife. "Someone has to protect our village."

"She could die!"

"Elin—!"

"No!"

"Guys!" Tyra shouted. "If I go and help and die, you'd be happy I would have found an honorable way to go down!" She clenched her fists. "I'm ready to go out there and murder some goblins! Just some training with fire bombs and made launchers and I'll be out there in no time!"

"Elin," Arvid said gently, "I think she's right."

"I don't know why I'm agreeing to this," Elin groaned, "but I am."

"Well then, lets go little bear."

"So what's first?" Tyra asked.

"First is the rifle."

"Ooh! What about it?!"

Arvid picked up the small rifle. "Its for you," he said, "for you when you fight the goblins." He had a faraway look in his eyes. "I made it for you. I knew you would need it as soon as you started squirming."

Tyra reached for Arvid's—no, Tyra's—rifle. "How do I use it?" She breathed, awed.

"Pretty simple, really."

"Oh?"

"You aim and pull the trigger."
