Coffee Spring

8th Street, 306

Washington, DC

April 24

1500 hours

Mike, Trixie and I were at a coffee shop a couple blocks away from spy school. We all decided to get together at the Coffee Spring after school, every Wednesday, at 1500 hours. We were eating outside, watching the people on the street and the cars on the road go by. Mike and I were having coffee, while Trixie had Gatorate. (She was a bit like her father when it came to drinks.) We were all eating some scones and talking about actual, normal stuff. No, not about who failed to defuse their bomb, no, not about Operation Valley or Operation Sneaky Monkey. Trixie was telling us about her school and other normal stuff she experienced on a day-to-day basis.

The wonderful bliss conversation was ended abruptly by Trixie, who asked us, "So, how is Saint Smithen's?"

"Well, nothing much, same old, same old," Mike said, faltering slightly.

Trixie looked at him, unconvinced. "What is 'same old, same old,' anyway?"

I glanced around, making sure no one was paying attention to us before talking. "Well, there's capture the flag with paintball for PE, History of Espionage which is basically normal history," I began. "We also have Self Preservation, Computer Hacking 101, Counterespionage, and Chemistry: Explosives edition."

"Mm," hummed Trixie, taking the information in. We continued talking for a bit, then Mike and I walked back to the academy.

I went up to my dormitory, and, as promised, there was a note concerning Operation Sneaky Monkey:

Benjamin,

Be down at the south entrance at 500 hours. Bring passport, clothes for warm weather, and approved weapons. Bring tutoring resources inclosed as well.

Agent Klondike

Enclosed was a thick packet of information and worksheets about Nicaragua, along with a laptop for tutoring. I started putting everything in my knapsack: clothes, grappling hooks and grenades (the only weapons I was completely qualified ot use). I put my passport in the knapsack as well and the laptop and packet of worksheets in a briefcase, so I wouldn't have my grenade go off when I was looking for my tutoring laptop.

I then took the note signed by Agent Klondike, Cyrus's code name, and shredded it, then burned the remains. It used to seem like overkill to me, but not anymore.

As I was preparing to go to dinner, I got a text from Trixie:

Trixie: Good luck tomorrow. 😁

Ben: Thanks, Trixie.

As I went down to dinner, I smiled, knowing that I had another good friend.

However, I didn't know how much this day would affect the next ten days.

Finally rewrote this cringey chapter!
