Assistant Coach?

The coach looks over to where the ball had come flying from.

"Sorry sir," Hinata bows, "That was my bad."

The coach isn't even fazed. He notices you, "You must be YN, I was wondering when you were going to show up to practice."

"Yeah she is, and she's really good at volleyball!" Noya compliments, "she's everything Tanaka said she would be." Tanaka was talking about you. Great, if it was coming from him, it probably wasn't something you wanted to know.

"Well, no slacking off," the coach instructs, "we have a practice match with Nekoma coming up."

You go stand by Kiyoko while the boys get to practicing.

"That's coach Ukai," Kiyoko informs you, "introducing himself probably just slipped his mind." You laugh.

"They get to have a practice match, too," you say while watching the boys, "sounds exciting."

"Yeah," she says turning her attention back to the team.

Hinata pulls off a quick attack, "YN did you see that!"

"She's watching, now stop slacking," coach Ukai scolds.

You and Kiyoko exchange a glance and start laughing. It was your first day back and you were already watching the coach scold the boys. Tanaka starts to leave the practice to see what you two are laughing about.

"Where do you think you're going," Ukai catches him, " you all have a lot of practicing to do before our match with Nekoma!"

"Do you want to come refill waters with me?" Kiyoko asks.

"Sure," you say hoping that the two of you leaving might cause them to get their focus back to practice. You each grab an armful of bottles and head out.

"The coach sure has a lot of work to do with that team," you say once you leave the gym, "Are they always like this?"

"Around us managers," she replies, "I'd love to lie and give you hope, but yes they are."

"Oh great," you think about how chaotic the road ahead is going to be.

"Just wait until we play other teams," she says, "also, I forgot to tell you that Nishinoya is like Tanaka."

"Great, just what I wanted to hear," you sarcastically joke. You knew you'd probably be grateful for them at one point. You hated having to talk to people you didn't know. They might start stuff though.

"Daichi and Suga can normally keep them under control," she reassures you, "until they get away, that can be a problem, but I promise you they don't mean any harm."

"Are they gonna get away when we play Nekoma," you ask, "because I didn't plan on making anyone mad at me."

"I'd love to say no," she says, "but I'm gonna have to say yes, they will probably get away if anyone tries talking to you from the other team."

You sigh as the two of you start filling up water bottles.

"If they get on your nerves too much," Kiyoko suggests, "just smack them, or ignore them, that works too."

Ignoring them you could do. You were good at that when you wanted to be.

"Okay, sounds good!" You both finish filling up the water bottles.

"I guess we have to head back now," you say reluctantly. You didn't want to be a distraction.

"Yeah, remember what I told you," she reminds, "and us third years will be around to help with any problems, team related or not. Just shoot us a glance a text or anything. Do you have everyone's number?"
