I strayed a bit from the prompt but oh well
Prompt:
Character A is dying but doesn't want to Character B, and makes sure to tell Character B how much they love them before they die
Nicholas was worried. They were usually worried about something, that was just their personality, but Cameron was late for their date. Cameron was never late, because that was his personality. His parents had taught him to be punctual and through some weird parental pressure he was petrified of being late to anything, for fear of disappointing those who were waiting for him.
So Nicholas thought that they had a reason to be worried.
They checked their watch yet again, only to find that it had only been thirty seconds since they last checked. So they stared up at the sky, trying to forget about their worries. Nicholas looked for clouds. Cameron liked looking for clouds. And now they were worried again. It was cycle; Cameron plagued their every thought. Nicholas didn't mind. They couldn't seem to mind. They loved Cameron.
And they were worried.
Their phone buzzed and Nicholas scrambled to pick it up. "Blaire? What's wrong?" They asked hurriedly.
When she spoke, Blaire's voice trembled and every word was accompanied by a short hidden sob. "I need you to get to the hospital. It's Cameron."
Those words shattered Nicholas's world. Something was wrong with Cameron. Blaire rarely cried, even when she broke her collarbone on the trampoline, she didn't cry. For her to cry, it was bad. Thoughts rushed through Nicholas's head and it was too loud and too silent and they needed Cameron. They needed to feel his arms around theirs and for everything to be okay. Nicholas just wanted everything to be okay.
"Okay." They croaked, then hung up. Gears finally started turning in their head, and all they knew was that they needed to get to the hospital. Get to the hospital and find Cameron and go from there. Simple plan.
It was simple. Nicholas caught the bus and dashed into reception, got Cameron's room number and a sympathetic look, and sprinted up three flights of stairs. Turns out doing cross country in middle school did pay off.
Blaire was waiting there, and hugged Nicholas as hard as she could when she saw him. "Oh thank god." She murmured. She glanced up at them, free tears flowing down her cheeks. "They told me, they told me say goodbye."
Nicholas froze. Goodbye. They'd said far too many goodbyes in their lifetime, but saying goodbye to Cameron? That was unfathomable. Incomprehensible. Cameron was always there. No matter what.
Nicholas stepped into the hospital room, a lump in their throat. "Hey Cam." He whispered. Then gasped at what he saw.
Cameron, looking smaller then he ever had, on the hospital. There was so many bandages and IVs and machines hooked up to him. Nicholas couldn't understand it all. They didn't want to understand it. They walked closer to Cameron's bedside, placing a shaking hand on his cheek, one of the only areas that wasn't injured beyond recognition.
Cameron placed a shaking hand on Nicholas's shoulder, his eyes only open by a slit. "I love you." He mouthed, unable to talk. "I love you so much."
Tears flowed down Nicholas's cheeks. He didn't trust himself to speak, and just nodded.
Cameron smiled sadly. "Bye Nicky." His hand clenched on Nicholas's shoulder, before going still.
A loud sob roared out of their mouth and their knees collapsed. Everything seemed to disappear, and it was just them and Cameron.
Them and a lifeless Cameron.
Just Nicholas.
