Shuchun's POV

"Mulan we have to go or we'll be late" I state as I enter our shared bedroom. To see her on her bed writing something on her arm. While looking at a book. "What are you doing to your arm?" I ask her confused.

"Notes encase I forget something" she says sheepishly.

"I told you, you should of read the book sooner" I remind her.

"We can't all be book worms like you Shuchun" she tells me as she puts the brush down. She starts to blow on her arm. "Besides I still have to feed the chickens and give father his morning tea. We have plenty of time" she states. Suddenly our rooster crows.

"You were saying?" I ask her smugly.

"Ai-yah" she exclaims and runs out of the room blowing on her arm. Calling for our dog.

"Meet you at the bath house!" I call and run to my horse Zhao. Who was waiting tacked up outside. "Yah" I say once I mounted him and gripped the reins. He sets off galloping towards town. I arrive at the bath house on time and hop off handing him to a stable hand. As mum comes to greet me.

"Where is your sister?" she asks me.

"Giving father his second cup of tea" I answer. She sighs in exasperation.

"Go inside and get into one of the tubs" she tells me. "I'll wait for your sister" she adds. I nod my head and go inside. I spot my grandmother and hug her.

"None of that, the match maker is not a patient woman and we have a lot to do. Where is the other girl?" the matron asks me.

"She'll be here soon" I assure her and go behind the screen to strip. I then hop into the warm tub and start to scrub my body. Being careful of the scar on my hip. As she cleans my hair. Soon I hear Mulan arrive outside.

"This is what you give me to work with? Well, honey, I've seen worse" the Matron sings. Mulan is pushed into the other tub. "We're going to turn this sow's ear, Into a silk purse" she declares.

"It's freezing" Mulan complains as she rubs her arms to try warm herself.

"It would of been warm like mine, had you been on time" I tell her smugly. She gives me a playful glare. My hair is rinsed and I'm helped out of the tub. Then start to dry myself behind the screen as they all start to sing.

"We'll have you both washed and dried
Primped and polished till you both glow with pride
Trust my recipe for instant brides
You'll bring honor to us all" the matron sings as she washes Mulan's hair.

"Mulan, what's this?" mum asks her when she sees her arm.

"Ah notes, encase I forget something" Mulan answers. I put on my under dress and sit down. Letting the hairdressers do my hair.

"Hold this. We're going to need more luck than I thought" Grandmother says handing mum a cage with a cricket inside it. Probably another one of her lucky charms for Mulan. She is a little clumsy. Mulan soon joins me in hair and the hair dressers start to sing.

"Wait and see
When we're through
Boys will gladly go to war for you both
With good fortune
And a great hairdo
You'll bring honor to us all" they sing. We're then escorted outside to our next destination. The dress makers.

"A girl can bring her family
Great honor in one way
By striking a good match
And this could be the day" the villagers sing.

We pass two old men playing checkers and Mulan wins the game for one of them. Before I pull her away shaking my head. We enter the dress makers ship and are placed on a stool each as they start to sing.

"Men want girls with good taste
Calm" they sing.

"Obedient" mum adds singing along.

"Who work fast passed" the dress makers sing.

"With good breeding" mum sings.

"And a tiny waist" the dress makers sing tightening the silk around mine and Mulan's waist. Making us both gasp. "You both will bring honour to us all" they declare smiling.

We leave to go to our next destination to have our make up done. I spot two boys take a little girls doll. I take it off them and hand it back to her with a smile. "Thank you" she says smiling as Mulan pulls me away.

"We all must serve our emperor
Who guards us from the Huns
A man by bearing arms
A girl by bearing sons" the villagers sing.

We enter the make up store and sit on a stool each. They already had the make up set up waiting for us. They powder our faces white before starting to do the rest as they sing.

"When we're through, you can't fail
Like a lotus blossom soft and pale
How could any fellow say 'No sale'
You'll bring honor to us all" mum and the make up artists sing.

"There you both are ready" mum says once they finish. She places a hair comb in each of our hair. Mulan's having a cheery blossom while mine has a plum blossom.

"Not yet" Grandma tells us. "An apple for serenity. A pendant for balance" she says placing an apple in our mouths and a pendant under out silk wrapped waist.

"Beads of jade for beauty" she sings placing a jade bead necklace around Mulan's neck. "You must proudly show it. Now, add a cricket, just for luck" she says. As she places the cage with the cricket under the upper layer of Mulan's skirt. "And even you can't blow it" she tells Mulan smiling and I giggle.

We exit the store with our umbrellas and start to sing ourselves.

"Ancestors
Hear our plea
Help us not to make a fool of us
And to not uproot our family tree
Keep our father standing tall" we sing. We find the other girls meeting the match maker and join their line. We all start to sing together.

"Scarier than the undertaker
We are meeting our matchmaker" we sing together in harmony.

"Destiny
Guard our girls
And our future as it fast unfurls
Please look kindly on these cultured pearls
Each a perfect porcelain doll" the villagers sing.

Us girls then each take a turn singing "Please bring honour to us". Then sing together "Please bring honour to us all". We kneel down open our different colored umbrellas. We hold them in front of us as we kneel.

The match maker steps out with her clip board. She looks at it before looking at us girls. "Fa Mulan!" she calls.
