Shuchun's POV

"Present!" Mulan exclaims as she stands up and I suppress a groan.

"Speaking without permission" the match maker says as she makes a note of her clip board.

"Opps" Mulan says sheepishly and follows the match maker into the house. Leaving the rest of us outside.

"Who spat in her bean curd?" Grandma asks and I giggle quietly. Before scolding myself and go back to being quiet waiting for my turn. I hope Mulan's test goes well. I stay knelled in front of the building with the other potential brides my umbrella in front of me.

Soon loud crashes, bangs and shouts were heard from the building. I could of sworn I smelt smoke also. "I think it's going well" Grandma says. I don't think so.

Just then the match maker runs out of the building with her arse on fire. "Put it out, put it out!" she shouts. Me and the other brides stand and back away from her. Mulan appeared with a teapot and throws the tea all over the match maker. It puts the fire out, but it makes the match maker's make-up run.

Mulan gives her the teapot smiling sheepishly and walks over to us. Mum gives Mulan a hug as the match maker storms over to us while I stand by Grandma. "You are a disgrace!" she shouts at Mulan throwing the pot onto the floor breaking it. "You may look like a bride, but you'll never bring your family honour" she states.

She turns to leave before spoting at me. She looks me up & down. She even walks around me in a circle before stopping in front of me. "What's your name girl?" she asks me firmly.

"Fa Shuchun, youngest daughter of Fa Zhou and Fa Li" I tell her. With my head bowed.

"There is a war doctor looking for a girl like you and you fit his description perfectly. Perhaps you'd like a chance to get your family's honour restored?" she asks me.

"I would be honoured to restore my families honour intact" I tell her honestly.

"Then I'll alert your future husband and send his details to your parents" she declares and leaves. Grandma and Mum guide Mulan & I to our horses. We mount them and start to ride home. The ride is silent as I know Mulan is upset and wants space. But she is no disgrace.

She is the best sister in the world and would be a fine wife for any man. Just men and the match maker are to stupid to see that. I'm sure I only got matched because of my looks. Everyone says I'm beautiful and that I am the most beautiful girl in the village. I notice how the men look at me.

I have been studying to become a midwife. But I also know basic first aid. I pray my future husband will allow me to work as a midwife and won't make me stay home. I also hope my future husband will be a kind, gentle, fair, honorable and nice looking man. But not like I have a choice in the matter. It's up to my parents and future husband to decide if I marry him.

(Another village) Laquan's POV

"Are you packed?" I ask my younger twin brother. We are going to war. We were both promoted to captain recently. We will be training a new group of warriors. I'm also a trained war doctor. So I will be helping out with injured men.

"Yes, just need to tack up my horse" he tells me. "Have you heard from the match maker?" he asks me.

"No, but I was very specific in what sort of bride I wanted. She may not exist" I tell him sadly.

"Don't give up hope" he says giving my shoulder a squeeze. Just then there is a knock on our door. "I'll get it" he states and goes to answer it. While he is gone I think of my description I had given the match maker for my future bride. Someone with dark brown hair, green eyes, slim curvy figure. I don't care if she gives me sons or daughters. As long as she has a good heart. "Laquan, it's for you!" Shang calls.

I go to the entrance hall to see him with the match maker. "Matchmaker, I was not expecting you so soon" I say with a polite smile. "Can't talk long, my brother and I are going to war. What can I do for you?" I ask her.

"I understand, just thought I'd let you know. I've found you the perfect bride, here are her details. I am giving your details to her parents tomorrow" she states while handing me a file.

"Thank you, I'll look them over and get back to you on the matter when I return from war" I promise her. She bows her head before leaving and I close the door.

"See, told you not to worry" Shang tells me smiling. "Lets see who she found for you" he states. I open the file and gasp in awe. She is indeed beautiful and seems to be just about perfect. "You're very lucky, I hope things go well" he tells me.

"So do I" I state as I smile. "Lets have some lunch, then we have to leave if we want to reach camp by night fall" I tell him. He nods his head and we just have some rice. We then tacked up our horses and locked our house before setting off for the training camp site.
