Under the screams of his parents arguing, he could still hear something coming from his bedroom closet.

“Hey buddy.” the shadow boy said, sitting next to him on the bed. “theyre really going at it tonight, huh?” he asked the world in general.

“Yeah.” the boy said to his only friend. “I dont even know what its about this time.”

“My offer always stands.” the shadowy boy said from all around. “I could take you away from this, all of it, all you need to do is ask.” His smile was like the cheshire cat's, too big with too many teeth. “How about it?”

The boy shivered, his breath coming out as icy clouds. He flinched as something broke downstairs.

“I'm not sure.” he murmured. “I dont want to leave everything behind.” He looked at his bookcase. “You said I wouldnt be able to bring anything with.”

“Where we'd be going, you wouldn't need any of that.” The shadow said, its smile getting wider. “Come on, say it.”

The boy hesitated, then decided.

“Please, please take me awa-” he was cut off as the shadow rushed him and forced its way into him through his nose and mouth and eyes.

The boy convulsed once and was still once more. Than he smiled, a Cheshire cat smile, and went to get a knife.
