When Jack's parents arrived they found Jack sitting up in a chair and Gabrielle was sitting on the arm huddled over Jack as they were both were looking at something on Jack's phone. They could hear quiet words talking about Jack coming from whatever it was they were watching. At first they were surprised to see Jack up and out of bed and after greeting them they asked about it.
"Well I was restless after we talked and wanted to try to move around. Gabrielle wouldn't let me. So when the doctor came in half an hour ago I talked to her about it and they put me through a little test to prove I wasn't going to just fall over if I got up. I passed so I am allowed to move around a bit now as long as I take it slow and easy and there is someone here that can help me."
"I was against him even trying it so soon but the doctor said it was something they liked to see. She said that as long as he is careful, the faster he pushes himself the faster he will get better. I guess they think it's a good sign."
So Jack's parents subsided about it. They really had no choice but to allow Jack to make his own decisions about how his recovery would go. That didn't stop them from worrying, just from fighting a losing battle when they could see one.
An hour later a detective showed up to talk to Jack about the incident. They all listened as Jack told the story from his perspective and he was able to pick out the assailant's picture from a book. They said his description matched the other witnesses and that they had caught the gunman this morning. They would be announcing it at an 11am conference.
That forced Jack into action. He wanted to get the videos done and uploaded before the police announcement. Jack's mother was not impressed with his thoughts about it.
"Jack, really? Your worried about YouTube after all of this?"
"Mom, it's not often you can make a splash by coming back from the dead. There is no way I can't run with this."
Gabrielle backed him up, just not for the reasons that had him so excited about it.
"Mrs. Brinkmen, I know Jack is making light of it, but really do need to get the word out that Jack is alive. There are millions of people that think he died last night. They are all talking about it. A huge number of people that are upset and devastated and we really need to reassure them that Jack is alive. Posting really is the best way. You know Jack, he can't just do it simply."
So Jack's parents gave up on trying to talk him out of it and decided to the cafeteria for some breakfast while Jack and Gab did their YouTube thing.
Video 1-
The video starts with a close up picture of Jack in the frame.
"Hey everyone. This is Jack, your favorite YouTube idiot. This is going to be a shorter then normal vlog today, but I feel it is needed to clear some things up. First..."
The video slowly pans out to show Jack sitting in a the hospital chair and wearing a hospital gown with a t-shirt kind of sitting over it. The IV pole is in the frame with the tubes running to his arm. He is holding a copy of the Springfield Times in front of his chest. The story of the shooting and a picture of him on the front with the words 'Local YouTube star killed in robbery attempt' is the headline.
"As you can see the stories of my demise are greatly exaggerated. I am not dead. The world can't get rid of me that easily. I would like to say thank you to everyone that posted such nice things about me. We have been reading and watching some of them this morning and I have to tell you that you don't know how much it means to me to know how much you guys care out there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I mean that."
