Reyansh could hear continous knocks on his door as soon as he exited the shower. Wrapping the towel around his waist, he rushed to get the door and found a panic-stricken Kayal.
"What happened?" Reyansh had wanted to add a humorous remark of her trying to break the door but bite it back, when he realized that she was genuinely tensed and also of the fear of her reaction.
"Shruti called up! She's gonna have to stay with us for a few days before she could return to Chennai! Her house owner had asked them to vacate the house and she's gonna have to leave tomorrow morning. She said she and her housemates have requested for a written permission from the authorities. Until she gets the permission, she asked if it's okay she crashes in here?"
"Say something, Reyansh!" Kayal urged him after waiting for sometime. He just seemed to zone out upon hearing her.
"Wait, I'm thinking why the owner asked them to vacate amidst a pandemic? Why didn't they fill a complain against the owner or something?" Reyansh questioned her back.
"I don't know! She said something about the owner being very influential and that the police will be on his side only. Besides, these are three girls who are all from different states and away from their families, Reyansh. Their safety issue is there. Luckily they all have relatives in Mumbai. Otherwise, I can't even imagine their situation!" Kayal expressed her thoughts though it was interlaced with concern. Something that she doesn't have for her younger cousin, Shruti. Their relationship, well it's kinda complicated. Shruti idolise Kayal and Kayal loathes the idea of being idolised. It isn't that complicated if it is put in that way, but in reality, it is way more twisted than what it may appear.
"Do you want me to go and file a report?"
"I don't want any trouble Reyansh! You'll be off sailing after this lockdown ends in another week and then God forbid, I might have to handle any problem that follows. I don't want that, okay?"
"What are you saying, Kayal? Shruti is your family, your cousin! How can you be afraid of problems to help her?" Reyansh probed while unconsciously grabing her forearm.
Kayal winced as he squeezed her arms slightly, being emotional and that made his hold on her to be loosen up.
"I'm sorry!" He muttered under his breath, trying to stay cool.
"Dude, look who's talking! You don't even talk to your family frequently and you're accusing me for not trying to get into trouble with bad guys which could ultimately hurt us both and Shruti as well? Seriously, Reyansh?"
"You know that I have problems with my family. It isn't the same here. But yes, if any of them called me citing they are in trouble I'll be there for them!"
"I'm being there for her! I am letting her crash in here until she gets the permission. What else can I possibly do?"
"If it were Vijay, you would have gone out of your way to help him! He's your favourite afterall!" He immediately regretted his words as soon as they left his mouth. He knew that inviting Shruti in itself is a huge step for Kayal and yet he just had to overstep it.
