Branded For Revenge

Chapter 4

We got up to the boat deck again.
"we have to stay on this ship as long as possible." Griffin said. We pushed through to the back of the ship. Some guy was moving too slow, quoting scripture, "Though I walk through the valley of the shadows-"
"You wanna walk a little faster through that valley there." Griffin popped off. It got harder to get a grip on things and move. We made it to the back of the ship, my heart was breaking minute by minute, seeing people cry and hold their children.

The back of the ship was rising, which caused our hands to slip. The ship split and the back went down again, before rising again.
"We gotta move." Griffin said and climbed over the back, he grabbed my hand and pulled me over. My heart racing more and more, my body getting filled with fear. I watched as many people fell and slipped and some, let go.
My breathing got faster and unsteady.
"This is it." Griffin said as the ship started sinking again. Seemed faster this time.

"The ship is gonna suck us down, kick for the surface and don't stop. We're gonna make it Kelly, trust me."
"I trust you" I said, the ship went under, I felt my body go numb for a split second. I thought I was dead.

'oh my god, he killed him' I said.
'who killed who?' dad said.
'Griffin, killed that guy'
'what?' Maddie said, more shocked than anything.
'you'll see'

"Griffin!" I yelled once I was to the surface. Someone pushed me under a few times.
"Kelly! Get off her, get off her man!" Griffin said, he knocked the guy unconcious.
"Swim, I need you to swim." I nodded and swam to a door. I got on it, Griffin tried to but it started flipping over.
"Stay on it." he said, pushing me on the door.
"Get on Griffin. There's room for you."
"No, Kelly there isn't."
"Yes there is, if you don't get on I'll get off." I threatened.
"Kelly, I already tried, I'll be fine." He said, grabbing my hand.
"The boats will come back, just gotta hang on a bit." He said. I was too cold to say anything else, or argue.

After a while it started getting quiet.
"It's getting quiet." I said. Griffin breath became uneasy.
"It's just gonna take them a minute to get the boats organized. I don't know about you but I am gonna write a strongly worded letter to the white star line about this." He said. I realized he had no hope. I needed to tell him how I felt before he died.
"I love you Griffin."
"No, don't say that, do not say your goodbye's. Kelly, don't do it, don't you give up"
"I'm so cold." I said, crying.
"Listen Kelly, You're gonna make it, you're gonna get out of here, and make lots of babies and you're gonna watch them grow, you're die an old old lady warm in her bed. But not now, not like this."
"I can't feel my body."
"You must do me this honor, promise me you'll survive. That you won't give up no matter what happens, no matter how hopeless. Promise me now, and never let go of that promise."
"Griffin-"
"Promise me now Kelly."
"I promise,"
"Never let go"
"I promise, Griffin." He kissed my hand. it was mostly true, but I didn't want to make the promise.
"Kelly listen to me... When the boat comes back I want you to get on it, when you get to the other ship, use a fake name. If Jason somehow finds you and you're forced to go with him, try to get away. You can live at my house"
"Why a fake name?"
"Cause this is when Kelly Gibbs dies."

A few minutes later a boat appeared.
"Griffin, there's a boat." I said shaking him he didn't wake up. He's dead. I felt for a pulse, he was barely alive.
"I know you're alive damn it. Just wake up. Please." I sobbed.
"Don't leave me here." I looked up, noticing the boat start to leave.
"Come back...Come back." I yelled as loud as I could, only coming out as a whisper. They can't hear me. I laid my head on his hand , really wanting to just die with him. But that promise was his last dying wish, So, I'm gonna keep it. I got off the door, and put him on it. Before swimming over to a guard who had a whistle. I blew it until a boat came back.
They got me and put me in there, I tried telling them Griffin was still alive but they didn't believe me. And rowed us to another boat.

'the last thing he said to me was pretty much, I love, don't let go, and something else, but I can't remember.'

Once we arrived on the other ship, they got me on the ship. I tried to stand but collapsed into someone. They led me through the crowd of people, they kept giving me things to drink and adding more blankets on me. I sat on a bench in the sun, attempting to stay warm. I kept thinking of Griffin, why couldn't I save him? I thought over and over, I knew Jason would be looking for me.

"Kelly" I heard him say, he sounded relieved. I snuck a peak, looking at who he was talking to. It wasn't me. He didn't see me yet, I turned back around hiding from him. I eventually found a nurse to see how the baby was.

'did the baby survive?' Lovett asked.
'Well, I don't have them with me. So... figure it out.'

*Night*
I stared at the statue of liberty, anouncing we had arraived in New York, the lights lighting up the ship.
"Can I take your name please love?" I gave a fake name.

'What name did you give?' Maddie said.
'Oh, I'm not saying that.'
'why?'
'Because, it was a thing specifically for me and Griffin. And if I ever hear it again, then I'll know...'

*The ship has docked*
The ship docked, I had been crying. I assumed he was dead, even though I didn't want to believe it.

"1500 people went into the sea, when Titanic sank. 6 were saved from the sea, myself included. there were,  I think 20 lifeboats, floating nearby. And only one came back." I said, looking at them. They were all crying, including dad and bodine.
"That's pretty much everything." I said, remembering the tattoos I got. I looked at the table, of the artifacts from the ship. Remembering them all, deciding if I wanted them or not.

"Take them."Lovett said.
"What"
"Take them. Something tells me I won't be needing them anymore"
"The one thing I want, Mr. Lovett, you can't give me." I said, going to my room.
