F O R G E T T I N G something that hurt was always a challenge and no matter how many times Reina took it on, she never came out feeling better. Sadness continued to wash her over like the coldest shower, the memory of Polo's broken eyes leaving her in purgatory.
Reina tried to distract herself with all sorts of things, but so far nothing worked, her mind and soul imbedded in the one last memory she thought she'd share with Polo. After all, they had so little time left together, not even half a year anymore, so Reina thought that this was it. She thought she had grown accustomed to avoiding Polo at all costs, but after speaking to him once she felt like she had lost all control.
Hurting him wasn't her intention even if in the end Reina did hurt Polo. The redhead knew this was the only way their story could end, because Polo had already hurt too many people she cared about. But most importantly he hurt her when Reina thought she was finally breaking free from suffering.
And even then, even when she thought pushing Polo away would work, it only created a bigger hole in her heart, one that would barely ever mend up. Reina knew she could've screwed everything and forgiven Polo, hence heal herself, but she was scared. Reina realized she'd rather hurt than loose everyone for one person, even if he sometimes felt far more important than others.
Reina tried not to think at all, remembering nice moments she used to share with her friends, even recent ones, but nothing worked as well as trying to fall asleep. It was hard and she wasn't in a very comfortable place, sitting on a bench outside Maria's hospital room, where she was being checked on, her last round of chemotherapy possibly coming to an end.
The redhead rested her head against the wall, eyes closed as if she was already asleep, even if she was just trying. People who passed would smile upon seeing someone rest so well in such an uncomfortable position, but they had no idea what uncomfortableness Reina felt inside.
It was already quite late, Maria being the doctor's last patient as Reina waited in the dimly lit hallway, dwelling the darkness her closed eyes brought. For a second it looked like she was finally ready to sleep until someone shifted the bench by sitting down, Reina stirring awake to see Guzman next to her, his whole face nerved. "What..." Reina grumbled, sitting straight after realizing that despite her burdened thoughts she managed to doze off.
Realizing Guzman was next to her, the first thing Reina felt was surprise. "What are you doing here?" she asked sleepily, the blond too annoyed to even answer as he stared ahead of himself, hands clasped and pale as if he needed to shake someone up.
"Sorry, I came by your apartment, but Gabriela told me you're here," he commented angrily, still confusing Reina as to why. The redhead fixed her messy hair, looking up at the clock that hang nearby, realizing Maria was still inside the doctor's room.
