Chapter 1 - You don't know what death is

Haddonfield, Illinois - October 31st, 1978:

It was Halloween night at the Doyle house, Laurie and Nick kneel down in front Tommy and Lindsey to their eye level.

Laurie: Now listen, we want you to go out of the house to the Mackenzies' house, we want you to knock on their door, we want you to tell them to call the police and send them over here.

Nick: Do you understand? Go do as she says.

The children leave Nick and Laurie as they go do as she says. Laurie leans against Nick as they wait for the police to arrive. Behind them, Michael sits back up.

Outside:

Tommy and Lindsey run out of the house screaming and calling for help. This gets Dr. Loomis' attention, who was passing by the house and he stops before walking up to the house. He knows this is where Michael could be and hopefully he can stop him.

At the same time:

Laurie helps Nick up and they don't see Michael get back up behind them. As Nick walks ahead in the hallway with Laurie behind him, he turns around to see Michael behind Laurie.

Nick: Laurie!

She turns around to see Michael behind her and he grabs to try and strangle her. Dr. Loomis runs up the stairs as he hears Nick call out to Laurie. Laurie pulls off Michael's mask to reveal his face, which stops him from strangling her and drops her. As he puts his mask back on, Loomis aims his gun at him at him and fires, causing him to stumble back.

Nick and Laurie cover their ears before the shot was fired. Loomis runs into the room to see Michael still standing. He shoots him 5 more times causing him to stumble back and fall over the patio onto the ground. He looks seemingly dead on the ground and doesn't move. Nick and Laurie un-cover their ears after Michael fell outside. Nick walks to Laurie and kneels next to her and holds her in his arms.

Laurie: (Tears in her eyes and looks at Loomis) Was that the Boogeyman?

Loomis: (Turns to look at the 2 teens) As a matter of fact, that was.

A minute later:

Loomis runs downstairs to the front door and sees the spot where Michael fell, with his body shaped in the grass. His eyes widen as he thinks how someone could survive 6 shots before falling to the ground from a high balcony. He walks to the spot Michael was at after he fell, kneels down to feel the ground and feels something. He takes his hand off the grass to see Michael's blood on his fingers. He gets up and looks around wondering where Michael could have gone. Next door, the porch lights turn on and a man comes out of the house.

Man: (Looks at Loomis) What's going on out here?

Loomis: (Looks at the man) Call the police! Tell the sheriff I shot him!

Man: (Walks towards Loomis) Who?

Loomis: Tell him he-he's still on the loose!

Man: Is this some kind of joke? I've been trick-or-treated to death tonight.

Loomis: You don't know what death is.

He turns around runs to search around to house to see if Michael is still around somewhere.

Meanwhile:

Michael walks in an alley between houses and he looks in the distance to see kids trick-or-treating. He turns around and stops as a dog, chained to a fence, barks at him. He continues walking until he hears a police siren and he sees Dr. Loomis in the distance before he hides on the side of a shed so they don't spot him. The police cruiser stops next to Loomis.

Loomis: I shot him 6 times!

Brackett: What?

Loomis: I said I shot him 6 times! I shot him in the heart!

Brackett: He can't have gotten far.

Loomis: I shot him 6 times! (He runs to the passenger side of the car and gets in) This guy, this man, he's not human.

The police cruiser drives away as Michael breathes heavily while walking past the shed and sees a house with lights on and a jack-o-lantern in the window. He walks up to the window and sees a woman in the kitchen making a sandwich.

Woman: Harold, you want mayonnaise on your sandwich? How 'bout mustard? (She walks into the living room to see her husband asleep in a chair with the tv on) Are you asleep again?

As the woman is distracted, Michael walks into the kitchen. The news starts playing on the tv.

TV announcer: This is a WWAR special bulletin. Police in Haddonfield have just made a grisly discovery of 3 bodies in the upstairs bedrooms of this house. It appears that the murders took place sometime early this evening. Authorities have confirmed that all 3 of the victims are teenagers: 2 girls and a boy. (Michael looks down and grabs the knife the woman was using for the sandwich) Police are searching the entire area for a mental patient who escaped last night from the Smith's Grove-Warren County Sanitarium. He is now believed to be at large in Haddonfield. This is Robert Mundy live.

Michael leaves the kitchen with the knife in his hand back into the night to continue his killing spree. The tv goes back to playing the movie and the woman backs away to the kitchen. As she reaches for where the knife was, she feels something. She picks up her hand with a terrified expression and sees Michael's blood that was left there before she starts screaming.
