                                                                                CHAPTER 3

Cyndy Williams had never trusted beautiful people. Which is why she hated Jasmine the moment she stepped foot into the bar. Something about her reminded Cyndy of a female version of Levi. Levi, who with his long dark lashes and eyes the color of the morning, looked like the sort of person you could trust. But turned out to be the sort of person who set fire to butterflies just to watch them burn. Levi, who screwed up her life in so many ways that she ran out of fingers to count all his wrongs against her.

Jasmine looked far too young and far too pretty to be in a bar like this. A bar like Luna's where werewolf politics were everyday topics and leeches were not welcome. Cyndy felt a twinge of pity when Jasmine sat down in front of Scar, the bartender, looking tired and dejected. But she hardened when she saw the glint in Jasmine's eyes. The same sort of reckless glint that scream danger and warning. The same look that Levi once gave her. But there was also a sort of sadness in Jasmine's eyes that was never in Levi's. A sadness that came from too many years of running, too many years of searching. Far too many years of living.

Jasmine stared down the bartender with a look of arrogance. Cyndy almost laughed out loud  what could a small human like her do to a group of at least fifteen supernaturals?

Apparently a lot.

Jasmine grinned. "So I take it you don't mix silver bullets? Too many bad associations huh?" Cyndy felt herself visibly stiffen. She knew? By now, Jasmine had drawn a crowd, all eyes were trained on her. Scar looked at her funny. "Actually, we don't serve it cause' it's really crappy beer." Her grin widened. Confusion washed over Cyndy and every other shifter in the bar. No one smiles when Scar looks at them funny. "I guess I'll have to settle for a good old shot of vodka." Scar almost laughed. The girl looked to be about eighteen years old. He heard about humans like these, humans who knew about the world around them. They were referred to as "untouchables" because they were protected by the Fates. "I.D please?" he said with a condescending look. She smirked and leaned in really close. "Bartending license please?" She said sarcastically. Scar couldn't help but growl. "Now now wolfie, no need to get upset." Scar growled again, louder this time. But no look of panic crossed Jasmine's face as she leaned back and swung her fist at Scar.

And it hurt like a bitch.

Scar was surprised to feel blood dripping from his nose, he was even more surprised to feel pain, and lots of it. She was obviously not human. No mere human girl could cause that amount of pain. She was most likely a supernatural, looking for a fight. But where was her aura? Her scent? Everything that defines any supernatural? He swallowed slowly.

"What are you?"

She smiled, loving the question, loving his confusion. "You're worst nightmare." And with that she punched him again. Scar brushed invisible dirt off his jacket and snarled.  He pulled his arms back and smiled cruelly before bringing level to where Jasmine was.

Or would've been

Instead, Scar's hand brushed the abandoned shot of vodka. Because suddenly, the girl wasn't there anymore, she was all the way across the room, laughing triumphantly  And right then, Cyndy wanted to take a rather large step back from Jasmine. Because at that moment she really did remind her of Levi. Scar leaped across the table and was suddenly joined by two other men. By three more. And soon enough, the entire bar was facing the illusive girl, snarling, growling, cursing. She took this as a challenge.

Her eyes flashed. No longer a murky hazel color but a vibrant pools of amber. And she seemed to glow with golden light and power. Some men took large steps back, realizing that this wasn't the right fight for them. Others advanced, with stubborn expressions.

And then the world came to life with her flying limbs, golden hair, and shrieking laughter. But not one person touched her, her skin remained unscathed and her eyes remained alert and aware.

A strong vice filled the room. "'ENOUGH!" Cyndy focused her gaze on James Hutson, who looked extremely pissed at the sight before him. Everyone backed down. Except for Scar, who still had had fist raised towards the girl. James sighed wearily as if he had done this before and a hundred times before that. "Jasmine Culumina did you come here just to pick a fight?" James didn't sound like he was kidding. His words were heavy and his tone, sullen. Jasmine smiled again.

"Oh James, you know me so well."

***********

Luke walked into Luna's, his gaze sweeping the room looking for James and Jasmine. He sighed when he reached the private office in the back and twisted the knob, pushing the door open. Just to have a knife sweep past him and wedge itself in the wall panels behind him. He looked at James wildly. "You haven't disarmed her yet?"

James looked up from his coffee. And murmured something about temperamental teenagers before taking another sip. "Sorry, didn't know it was you." Jasmine shrugged. Luke glared at her. "Would you please explain why the hell you beat up half of James pack at..." He checked his watch." two o'clock in the morning?"

Jasmine grinned. "You know me, wild child. Jumping off roof tops, running down allies, picking fight with whole werewolf packs." Luke and James both glared at Jasmine. Jasmine softened a bit  James had always been like a father to her and Luke... well look was a different story. "I found him."

The news hit Luke hard, so hard in fact that he might have actually stumbled back. "Which one?" He asked, praying to whoever was out there that it wasn't Jace. "Nicolai." Both James and Luke gave her a curious look. Nicolai they could deal with. Even Wren, though temperamental, was easy to deal with when it came to protecting Jasmine. It was Jace that she was running from. For a good reason too.

"Well who is he?" James pressed impatiently.

"Why no other than your beloved son Jasper."

James' eyes widened.
