Shadow was on her way to the library. She didn't want to go to her dorm yet since the girls there seemed to hate her because they associated her with Draco. It was already a week into term and her only friends were Harry and Ron. When she stepped into the library, she instantly felt as if she had stepped into a room of friends. She loved the old paper smell of libraries, as well as the atmosphere. She walked down the isles, trying to find a book she wanted to read. She couldn't help but pick one out about Salazar Slytherin. Maybe it would include a family tree or bloodline. When she sat down at a table to read it, she saw another girl sitting across from her. She had bushy brown hair and was reading one of the largest books Shadow had ever seen. She looked up when Shadow sat down.

"Hi there." the girl said. "I'm Hermione Granger. I see you have a history book. Do you like history?" Shadow was a bit startled by the sudden question.

"Um, yes I do." she answered. "I got into it when I...um...well....to put it simply, I was adopted, and I wanted to find out who my parents are."

"Oh." Hermione said. "That's interesting. So I guess you're not going to be bragging about your blood status like that Malfoy prat?" Shadow tried to hide her laugh behind her book.

"No I'm not. That Malfoy prat is actually my adopted brother. But don't worry, I get it. He's become such a jerk since he got to school." Hermione smiled.

"By the way, what's your name?" she asked.

"I'm Shadow. And while we're on the subject of blood status, do you know yours?" Maybe, just maybe, Hermione was her lost twin sister.

"Yes. My parents are both muggles so I guess that makes me a muggle-born." So that answered Shadow's question.

"So, do you mind if I take a look at what you're reading?" Hermione asked.

"Sure." Shadow said. Hermione switched to a seat next to Shadow, and Shadow opened the history book.
