The town bustled with business, not uncommon, in this part of Eutheria. Asephia could hear the sound of the baker's son Jericho advertising their bread all the way from down the street, the lady who owned the boutique just a little further, laughing at a new piece of neighborhood gossip. It was mundane. Very mundane.

Asephia, skipped her way to the mail boy Grace, who would always be there to give her the present she looked forward to every week.
Akaal's letters.

"Ace!" she shouted, waving her hand as she lightly ran towards him.

Grace, startled, dropped the majority of the letters, he always got startled when Asephia would call for him out of the blue. Though it wasn't her fault, he always had been anxious, the other kids in the neighborhood would call him a scardy-cat even, but not her. Not Asephia, who always seemed to have a cute smile adorned on her face. She was always the one to stand up for him when no one else would. Not that she was well liked either due to her fiery red hair. Yet he did, like her that is. He liked the way she would laugh at his jokes, even when they weren't funny, how her dimples would speak out to him before she did, how the way her caramel skin glowed every time the sun would shine, she was the cutest.

"Oh, h..hi Asephia!" He stammered, his pale face becoming red out of pure embarrassment.

"You have my letter for me?" She asked eagerly, her eyes shining like stars as she leaned closer to him. Too close, so close that he could feel her breath on his neck. His whole face became as bright as a tomato. As his shaky hands tried to find its way into his knapsack stuffed with letters.

Asephia, noticing his overly stiffness, realized her mistake and jumped back, putting her hands behind her back, she apologized. "Sorry, Grace! I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."
The girl scolded herself, as she moved away.

Her mother always told her to be careful when it came to people's personal space. It wasn't good for a young lady at a marriageable age to act too familiar with a man. Others may talk.

Not that Asephia really ever cared about that sort of thing. Which always made her mother very, very angry.
"H-here's your letter, Fia." Grace stuttered as he handed her the letter with her name on it.

He had always wondered who these letters were from, though he was happy that it gave him an excuse to see her every week, he always felt a pang in his chest whenever she gave him that look when handing her the letter.

Her eyes softened, as she smiled ear to ear. A light blush dusted her cheeks, as she held the piece of paper as if it were something precious. "...Thank you." She said.

Who was it that brought out such an expression? Before handing it to her, Grace peaked at the letter's sender. In intricate writing, a name was printed.

Akaal.

Birds chirped, loudly in the woods. It was something he was used to, but every so often it got annoying, too annoying. How was anyone supposed to sleep when there were all these blasted birds singing like his cabin was some sort of stage?

"I swear, tonight i'm going to cook you all alive." He scowled.
His house was as dark as night. No windows, no sun, no light except for a few magical gems that would help him navigate his house. Not that he really needed them. Since he's lived in this house for more than 500 years.

Lately, his only joy has been sending letters to a girl he never met. She was quite the funny one. Talking about her neighbours, and the story she was writing. Her dreams, her aspirations. It only made him want to see the outside world even more, he smiled sadly at the thought. "Asephia, I wonder what it would be like to meet you."

He wished he could imagine meeting her, strolling through the town as if he truly belonged.

If only...If only he wasn't a vampire chained to the darkness of the night, maybe that could've happened.

Really wanted to make this into a short comic, or an animated short. There's a lot more to the story! I just had to cut it for class, due to the word length. But I swear, when I think of Akaal and Asephia, I wanna cry because if you've ever watched Makia: When the promised flower blooms or Hotarubi no Mori E. Those are the vibes I wanna give y'all.

Give those movies a watch. You won't regret it.
