Prologue

Knelt next to the corpses of his parents was a boy. He cried as the blood seeped towards him, but he didn't move away. He would later learn crying was a weakness, and being weak and helpless meant death. He had no known relatives left. His aunt was dead, along with her husband.

Creeping into the house that stank of death, was Hydra. They were on a mission to retrieve something special that would be a great help in their studies. Someone who would soon be hardened by the sinking feelings of abandonment, wishing he could go too, and the shivering of the loneliness with nobody by his side to comfort  and give him the safe feeling of home.

The boy was still weeping over the deaths of his parents when the Hydra burst in. In a quick, swift moment, he was gone. The only traces left were the tears that sunk into the now crimson carpet and the pictures of a family that no longer existed.

They took him to a mansion with shiny glass windows and people - servants it seemed - bustling around not taking their eyes off the floor to meet his eye. Then, they took him to a small metal room with one small window where he was poked and prodded, tattooed - more accurately branded - like he was their property.

The man who looked to be in charge had a tall straight back, slicked white hair, and a mind that was impossible to satisfy. He was given the name Snake because it was rumored that every once in a while, he would shed his skin, reversing his age.

He was the one the people were trying so hard to impress. The eyes behind the bulletproof windows of the metal room were always his. He watched as the subjects were brought in. The ones that were too small, old, happy, broken or any other reason he thought necessary to turn them away were never to be seen again.

This boy, who was too haunted by his parents' cold lifeless eyes to speak, caught Snake's eye. Snake looked at the small boy, almost six, and smiled with his cold, blank, face. He could use this boy.

And the birth of the Dark Spider began.
