• Chapter 21 •

(A/n) If there's timeline issues from now on please ignore them lol. It's been a while and honestly I just couldn't be bothered to read back through. I might've skipped a day or two on the voyage side of things but I just want the story to get a move on.

"(Y/n) where did you go last night?" James said quietly as soon as my eyes were fluttering open.

"What the- I just woke up give me a second to a least open my eyes." I groaned loudly.

"Right, right. Sorry." He sat down quiet for a minute. "I saw you come back with Tom." He furrowed his brows. I'm not being jealous, just curious." he very quickly added.

"James can we just do this later? I'm so tired" I objected.

I tried to turn away but he put his hand on my shoulder to stop me. I turned to face him and he was giving me such big puppy dog eyes.

"Please. It would just make me feel better." He said in a pleading tone.

I shifted slightly in my hammock and then sat upright to face him properly. I smiled at him comfortingly because he looked quite tense. His expression soften a little, but only very little.

"Jim, hunny. I was just talking to him for a while. I couldn't sleep anyway, I would've talked to you but you were, you know fast asleep."  I explained, in response he only smiled widely. "What are you so happy about?" I asked, confused.

"Nothing." He chuckled.

"Come on." I shoved his shoulder lightly.

"It was just cute when you called me hunny." He laughed again.

"That's all you got from my explanation?" I said trying to hide my blush.

~ Jim's P.O.V.~
I really don't want to annoy her to much about Tom. I should trust her but it's difficult. After my dad leaving me I can't bare someone as important as (Y/n) leaving me too.

The thing is, one minute I think i'm being overly cautious but when i'm not being overly cautious she could leave just like he did when I wasn't paying attention.

"Hey, i'm sorry if i'm being overbearing (Y/n)." I put my hands down onto her shoulders. "I really am trying my best." I smiled softly.

I decided to stay in bed a little longer whilst (Y/n) went for some breakfast. I was tired and figured I should give her some space because like I told her I don't want to be overbearing.

I had some time to think to myself. i've decided that i'm going to trust her. I don't know why I doubted her so much.

~ (Y/n)'s P.O.V. ~
I talked to Tom at breakfast and he asked if we could talk again tonight because it was really nice just to talk. I, of course said yes. I like talking to him, and if he's lonely then I'm obviously not going to deny him.

I might even invite James if he has the time, I decided to go chat to Silver because James still hadn't appeared and I didn't have much to do.

On the way to Silvers office I spotted Tom talking to one or two of the crew mates which is a little weird because he said that he doesn't talk to the crew that often.

I dismissed it and continued on my way. Looking out at the sky I noticed a small cluster of sparkling blue planets, they looked pretty cool.

I eventually reached the office and knocked before entering, stating "It's (Y/n)."

"Come on in (N/n)!" came Silvers voice from inside the room, slightly muffled because of the door between us.

I opened up the door to see Silver talking to the crew member known as Bones. Funny name seeing as he was one of the biggest men on the ship, not to mention really buff too.

"See ya later." Silver nodded to Bones, who then left swiftly.

"What's up then?" Silver looked to me from his chair.

"Nothing really, i'm just a bit bored." I said blankly.

"Oh well i've loads of things you could do, scrubbing the deck or washing dishes perhaps?" He suggested with a cheeky grin.

"Ha. No thanks." I replied quickly. " I just came to chat. Maybe you could show me how far we are from this shortcut?" I asked pointing to the big map sitting on his desk.

"Sure, darling. Take a seat." He answered, pulling out a stool from under the table.

I sat down next to him staring at the very large and colourful map. I spotted the small cluster of blue planets, it was labelled 'criostail gorm'. Before Silver could speak I stopped him, "Wait, wait let me take a guess at whereabouts we are." I lied, I knew exactly where we were now because of the criostail ghorm.

I pointed directly next to the little blue illustrations and proudly said, "Right here."

Silver looked almost shocked. "How did you know?". I started to laugh at him and then explained how I knew. "Little scallywag you are." He pointed at me smiling. "Too much influence from our Jimbo." he laughed.

My face unintentionally fell a little thinking of how Jim kept acting because he wouldn't trust me. It not even that big of a deal. I guess I just involuntarily looked a little sad or frustrated at the mention of his name. After realising I made sure to pick myself up a little a wear a half smile.

"What was that?" Silver asked thoughtfully.

"What was what?" I said trying to sound confused.

"Come on (N/n) you can talk to me. What's going on?" He sighed.

"Oh it's just the thing of Jim being jealous of Tom, he is trying his best but he's just being a but much lately. I don't know, i'm trying my best to let him know that it's ok but my efforts just...are not working." I explained.

"Ah I see." He said stoking his chin. "He's a boy, a broken one at that. You don't want him to drain you but you don't want to leave him to his devices. Make sure there's balance." Silver advised.

"That was very cryptic but weirdly helpful." I said, chuckling softly. "Thanks Silver, I appreciate it.".

"So you wanted to know how much longer then?." He asked scanning the map.

"Yes, please." I said quietly.

"So if we're here, and the shortcut is here." Silver mumbled to himself. Then he mumbled a few numbers as if he was calculating. "We should be there in about 2 to 3 days depending on the any meteors that could be in the way."

"Oh damn, that's close-"

"Ah sure yeah, but it'll be another day before we reach Botany Bay." Silver interrupted me.

I thanked Silver and left his office to find James.
