Dean and I sit in front of the fire. Dillan and Sarah are sitting directly across from us.
We haven't seen Sarah for a year. We thought maybe she had gone into hiding. When she wasn't returning, we were hoping she had given up.
After Mom died, I decided not to continue to be a part of the Golden Keepers. Dean and Shane continued though.
They mainly helped with every day crimes. Catching robbers and assisting the police in other tasks.
"So Astra, Dillan tells me your mom used to work at the restaurant in town. What happened to her?" Sarah asks with a slight grin.
"She was killed." I say sharp and quickly.
She knows what happened. After all, she's the one who killed her.
My clench my jaw and my hands start to shake. Dean places his hand on top of mine, trying to calm me. Hoping I won't do something I'll regret in front of our friends.
"It's Stacy right?" Dean asks.
Sarah looks irritated but stays quiet.
"How did you meet Dillan?" He continues to ask.
"Oh it's quite the story. I had just moved into the town about a month ago and I decided to take a walk and explore. Long story short, I ended up getting lost and ran into Dillan in front of the library. He offered to show me around town and took me to dinner that night." She says as she hooks her arm around Dillan's.
My eyes focus on her arm snuggled into Dillan's, leaving a sharp pain in my heart. Dillan and I agreed to only be friends when my mom died. I knew he would eventually move on, but not with Sarah.
Sarah knows who Dillan is, she used him as bate to attempt to get me to join her and the Captain when they tried to take over the country. It breaks my heart knowing that she is using Dillan to get to me. Poor Dillan.
There is an awkward silence around the fire. Shane is sitting next to Dean reading a book, I'm not sure how because it's so dark out here. Cali and Josh are next to me and can't seem to keep their hands off of each other.
Cali makes eye contact with me and practically sees the words help me written on my forhead.
"So who wants smores?" Cali says cheerfully as she grabs the bag of supplies from behind her.
"Oh shoot, I forgot the roasting sticks." She says with a frown.
Josh rubs her back to comfort her. Cali is a people pleaser, so forgetting something as little as roasting sticks has a really big impact on her.
"It's okay Cal, we will go grab some tree branches from those trees over there." I say while pointing to a group a maple trees a little ways away.
Dean gets up to assist me in finding sticks. Dillan starts to stand up.
"No! Um.. you guys stay here. Dean and I can do it." I say to Dillan.
Dillan looks upset, but doesn't fight me on the matter and sits back down next to Sarah. Dean and I turn away and head towards the group of trees. We walk side by side, occasionally brushing our arms against one another.
"So... Sarah's back." Dean says awkwardly.
"I can't believe she came back here." I say angrily.
"Why do you think she is back?" Dean asks.
"I don't know, but I can't imagine it's a good thing. She's got something up her sleeves." I respond.
"Are you okay about her and Dillan?" Dean asks hesitantly.
