It's the last summer before senior year and Lelani is the only one out of all her friends who still doesn't have a boyfriend.
She thinks that she found the one and she's going after him

or so she thought.
"If you need a hero, just look in the mirror No one's going to save you now , so you better save yourself And everybody's hurting,everybody's going through it But you just can't give up now, cuz you gatta save yourself"
'Finally!' Ashley says as we walk out of the doors of school, 'I'm so happy we're finally out of school, I don't think I could take one more minute of Mr. Wesley's lectures' she says fixing her hair . 'Honestly I'm just glad the years over so I can spend more time with kaleb' Hanna says while smiling to herself. 'yeah , I mean this is our last summer in high school so we have to make it count ' Chrissy says.
"HEY EVERYONE ,PARTY AT MY HOUSE TONIGHT!" Jason castor yells and everyone in the school yard cheers.
We all look at each other and smile and laugh as we walk down the stairs. "You all going to the party ?" Kristen asks, 'yep', "mhm" Ashley and Hannah both say . They all look at me ," I dunno guys" I say as I look down and shrug my shoulders. 'C'mon lani pleeeaase' Hannah says as she grabs my arm and pulls it . I let out a soft smile and sigh " maybe" . 'You never go to parties with us" Chrissy says pouting . "You guys know that I'm shy" I say quietly. " we know and you really need to get out of that,you're almost 18 and you've never been to a party. You've never even had a boyfriend" Ashley says .
Ouch.
Even though I know what she's saying is 100% truth it hurts. I mean it's not my fault I haven't met the love of my life yet . Me and boys just don't mix. First of all I'm really shy around people I like . Also I've never had a crush on anyone before so I don't really know what that's like . Maybe I'm just meant to be a lonely middle aged woman with no kids and a bunch of cats .It's pretty obvious that I'm the ugly best friend. I've come to terms with it and I'm not mad about it . I still don't exactly understand why I'm the only one without a boyfriend though , a lot of ugly people have boyfriends.
" maybe you should try to hook up with Jason at the party tonight " says Ashley . I nearly choked on my water. "Jason ? that'll never work" I say ."girl you're gorgeous you could easily hook up with him" I roll my lips to the side and look up at Jason . "I dunno" I say . "Well I do" Ashley says smiling at me , "get ready for the party and I'll pick you up at 8:00" Not wanting to argue I say " okay" getting into my car .
When I get home I take a nice cold shower - Ashley said it helped your skin and she was right. I straighten my hair and comb it back . I put on a black leather jacket and a black tube top under it with a black skirt and fishnets , along with my thigh high boots. I look in the mirror and sigh . " Time to go" I say to myself.
I hear a horn beep outside and I grab my purse and go down the stairs to leave out the front door. "Where are you going young lady ?" my mom asks as she lights up her cigarette.

"Uhhh just to this party with the girls" I say nervously. She lifts her eyebrows and looks at me , " a party??" she says with a condescending tone . "Yes?" I say back . She paused for a moment, then starts giggling " FINALLY! my baby's first high school party !!" She says while hugging me . " okay, stay safe and call me every 10 minutes okay?" She says . " yes ma'am" I say as i head out the door . " YOU LOOK GREAT BY THE WAY !" She yells as I walk out . " THANKS MOM" I say as I close the door .
As soon as I close the door I practically run towards Ashley's car . When I got in they were all shrieking and so was I . "Oh my goodness mamí you look gorgeous" says Ashley . The others agree ."ya you look really good" Hannah says , " aww thank you guys, let's go have some fun!" I say as we pull off . "So who's coming to this party?" I ask , " everyone, including Jason" Chrissy says as they all tease me. I blush , " guys stop, I don't even know if I'm going to say anything to him" I say and they all look at me . "You will" says as she keeps driving. We don't say anything else the entire drive unless we were singing along to the radio
