Chapter One

You and Evan walked in “You can sit on the couch if you want” Evan nodded and sat his bag down, your father and Evans mother walked into the room “This is going to be weird but Evan is going to be staying with us for a while” Evan look at his mom and back at your dad “Can I ask why?” “You and (Y/N) are siblings” 
You and Evan stared at each other, your dads phone rang and he answered it, you could hear a panicked voice on the other side of the phone “Okay Cynthia I need you to calm down, I want you to call 911 and I’ll be on my way” he hung up and ran outside “Wait dad who was that?” you asked “Cynthia Murphy, the mother of the kid who was found passed out in the middle of the woods” your dad drove down the street leaving you, Heidi and Evan “So are you really my mother?” Heidi nodded “Yes, when me and your father got a divorce he got custody of you and I got custody of Evan” you nodded and looked around “Why am I staying with them?” Evan asked “Just so you can have time with your sister and dad” Evan nodded looking at the door to the kitchen that opened “Oh it's just the cat” you said picking up the gray tiger striped cat “This is River” you said setting her down on the couch “Hey Evan do you think Cynthia is Connor’s mom?” Evan shrugged “Could be”
Your father arrived back at home at twelve in the morning, Heidi already left so it was just you, River and Evan “Hey dad, what happened?” you asked handing him a water bottle “Some kid Connor Murphy overdosed, he’s in the hospital, they think he used a whole bottle” you looked at Evan who looked back worried “He’s going to survive right?” Evan asked “Yeah, he’s in a coma right now but he’ll survive” you nodded petting River on the head.
You looked up at your ceiling not being able to sleep ‘I wonder why Evans letter said all my hope is pinned on Zoe’ you thought you got up and walked to the living room, you sat on the couch reading fanfictions, you sighed and went out the door to go on one of you nightly walks, you walked down the block and stopped at a 7/11, you paid for your snacks and walked back down to the house. You sat at the kitchen table drinking your slushie “(Y/N) what are you doing up?” you looked to see Evan in front of the doorway “Just thinking” you replied.
You awoke in your room River sleeping beside you, you got up and went into the shower, you walked downstairs to see your dad and Evan talking. “I can take you two to school if you want” your dad asked “It’s alright we can walk” he smiled “Alright, have a good day you two”.
