Lucy's POV

I was shaking so much that the bed shook with me. 'He knows where I am..' I thought in horror. I looked at my door, half expecting him to come out of nowhere with a gun and shoot me. To my luck, he didn't. So I am lucky. For this time. My dream last night was only scratching the surface of what my dad can do to me. 'Wait, maybe that was Levy doing a prank on me,' I thought. Then my phone rang 10 times. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz, and so on.
@Levymcgarden: Hey
@Levymcgarden: Hello..
@Levymcgarden: Lu-Chan?
@Levymcgarden: Where r u?
@Levymcgarden: If u don't answer I'm going to break into ur house
@Levymcgarden: With Natsu
@Levymcgarden: Just texted him. He's comin
@Levymcgarden: At his house
@Levymcgarden: Going now
@Levymcgarden: I'm in front of your house right now
I sweat dropped. Really? My friend is really protective. Then, I heard a door being knocked down. "That Natsu..." I muttered. "He better be paying for the door this time..." I said. That had to be the 6th time I would have to repair that door. Then, my door swung open creating a loud bang as it hit the furniture behind the door. Natsu was in front of the door, and Levy was right next to him. Levy had a scary aura that reminded me of my... dad.
"Luce? Are you okay? Cause Levy told me that you never texted her back, and you know how protective she is."Natsu said, shivering as Levy pushed him back. 'You're doomed...' He mouthed. 'Oh, I never knew that.' I sarcastically mouthed back. Then, I faced Levy, who was evil eyeing me.
"Levy," I started. "I never texted you back because of this text." I said, picking up my phone that was on the ground. I just realized I dropped my phone. I showed her the text. As she read it, she gasped and I started to tear up. Her face softened. "It can't be him... could it?" Levy said, her eyes filled with hope. "I really hoped it was you, cause only you would know and could pull that prank." I said, tears splattered on my face.
"Then.. it must be-" "Hey," Levy was interrupted by Natsu. "What are you talking about?" He asked. "Nothing, Natsu. We'll go now. Bye Lu-Chan!" Levy said, as she rushed him out of the room. "H-hey!" Natsu exclaimed. Then I could hear them in Natsu's car and gone. I sighed. I really need to sleep. I yawned before I got back into bed.
"He's out to get me... and this time he'll be serious." I said, before closing my eyes and drifting into a nightmare.

The sun was out and I jumped out of my bed. 'It's my birthday!' I thought happily. I changed into blue jeggings and a neon white sun dress that went down to my knees. I skipped to my mom and dad's room. "Mom~ dad~ wake up!" I said, but nobody answered.
"Mom, dad?" I asked, going to their bed and took off the blanket to see that they were not there. "Hmmmm." I thought, then rushed to the dining room, where I got a big surprise. There was a blueberry pancake on a blue plate, with apple juice in a blue cup. Behind the plate, had my name on it. Lucy Heartfilia, it read. I sat down on the chair where my food was closest to me. On the card, read Read The Inside. I took the card, opened it up, and started to read it out loud.
"My dearest daughter,
Layla and I wish you the greatest of your 8th birthday! We have a special surprise for you that you will quite enjoy. After eating your breakfast, go to the Dragneel's house. They will drop you off to a surprise destination. Don't worry, Natsu can come too. This is a place that we have never seen before, so I know you will enjoy.
We'll see you later,

I squealed, then groaned, remembering that I hate surprises. But, too eager to know what it was, I finished my food quickly. Then, taking the note, I ran to the house next door where the Dragneel's house was. I knocked on the door and the door swung open. Natsu looked at me and smiled. "Happy birthday, Luce! You look pretty today." He said, letting me in. I blushed. "T-thanks, Natsu."I stuttered. He looked nice too. He had a white and green shirt with a pocket. He was was wearing green khakis.
He led me to their garage, where Igneel was in his mercedes benz car. I hopped in, and so did Natsu. Natsu was really bad at keeping secrets, so he put duck tape on his mouth. "Are you ready, kids?" Igneel asked, as soon as the garage door opened. "Hai!" I cheered. "Mmmph mmphn!" Natsu cheered, I guess, too.
We took a 20 minute drive to a park that was out of town. It was beautiful. A land covered in bright green grass, and a sparkling lake next to it. Wendy, Natsu's sister was playing there. Wendy is Natsu's younger sister, and she's only three years younger than Natsu and I. She was feeding the ducks with bread crumbs. The trees looked amazing, and there were picnic benches that seemed that is was covered in new paint. My parents were at one, and Grandine was at another. "Duckies!" Wendy squealed, as the ducks came to her. Then, she spotted Natsu and she ran to him. "Natsu-nii chan!" She cried happily.
I ran over to my mom and dad. "You had to?!?!?!?" I said. "You know I hate surprises! And all because of a present." They laughed. "What's so funny?" I asked. "Well, we have already given you your present." Mom said. "Huh, what do you mean?" I asked. "Well, this whole land, is all yours." Dad said. I was shocked. "W-what?!" I exclaimed. I was really happy. I hugged mom and dad, with a continuous chorus of 'Thank you!'s.
I went up to Natsu and jumped up and down. "Natsu, Natsu, guess what?" I asked him. "What?" He asked eagerly. "My dad and mom won't tell me, and I really want to know!" He exclaimed. "All this land.. I own it!" I squealed, jumping up and down in a circle. "Woah, my parents would never let me have my own land." Natsu said with a pouty face. I stopped jumping and laughed. "That's because you're way too irresponsible, baka." I said, after I finally cooled down.
"Lucy!" My mom called. I turned around, my mom waving at me. "Coming!" I called. "Gotta go, Natsu!" I said as I was running towards her. I stopped right in front of her. "I am sweating! Let's get ice cream. Wanna come, sweetie?" Mom asked. I agreed happily. We went to a famous ice cream store called Moo Moos. I got a turtle cheesecake flavored ice cream. Mom got a strawberry cheesecake flavored ice cream. We were walking on the sidewalk, and we had to cross a road, and I crossed the road without thinking, which I didn't realize was a huge mistake.
A car came towards me really fast. I froze in the middle of the street, terrified. I closed my eyes and waited to get hit, then I felt a painful sensation on my knee. I opened my eyes. I wasn't on the road, but mom was. She was laying on the road, covered in blood. I ran to her. I called out to her. I finally reached her, and all the cars stopped. "Mom!" I cried, tears forming. A crowd appeared out of nowhere. I held her lifeless body in my arms. Blood was all over her clothes, and it seemed the driver who hit her drove away, not even caring.
"Mom! Mom! Mom! Please live!" I cried. "Call 911!" Someone called in the crowd. I held my mom until an ambulance took her away. I reached out to my mom and I cried for her to stay. Natsu and his dad seemed to be looking for me and mom, until they saw the commotion and rushed over to see. Natsu had tears in his eyes and he rushed to me. He hugged me and patted me softly. "Luce... shh, you'll be fine, she will be with you forever. You're mom told me to give you this." He whispered calmly and pulled out a small box. He lightly let me go and I took the small box. I looked at Natsu who was drying his tears and gave me a small smile. I sniffed, gave him a smile too and opened it up. It was red hearts attached to gold earrings. There was a note attached to the box.
My sweet Lucy,
I hope you love it. Natsu gave this to you because I know you would feel comfortable when he gives it to you. These will be your memory of us when we die. I hope you love these forever and ever.

I put on the earrings and started to cry again. "Thank you mom, I will always wear them." I promised as I looked into the sky. "I promise."

I woke up with a start. Something was on my face. I felt whatever was on my face. "Tears?" I asked. I looked at my clock, and I realized something. Today was the worst day of my life. Today, was my birthday.
