An Accidental Confession (College AU)

I quietly observed the ivory plants that covered the walls of the library, my hand resting on the tan paper of my book. I turned back to my pages and swiftly flicked to the next, trying to redirect my attention to my novel.

Yet, despite my attempts, I couldn't keep my mind from wandering. There's just something I can't seem to pull myself away from- "Shuichi~"

I quickly pulled my eyes away from my book, a boy standing before me. He wore a white knitted sweater, a checkered scarf rested around his neck. A lightly colored bag hung off his shoulder, a small book tucked under his arm.

"Ah... Good evening Kokichi." I smile pulled at the corners of my mouth as I watched the boy slide forward and take a seat, his bag falling against the back of the cushion. "Since when do you come to the library?"

He smirked and leaned back a bit, relaxing his arm over the side of the couch. "Since I've started the new semester, I've got an exam next week." Kokichi taking his classes seriously? That's quite unusual...

"And why are you here?" The boy questioned, opening his bag and pulling out a laptop. "No real reason, I'm here just to read." He responded with a distinct look, his eyebrows raised slightly in confusion.

"Studying?" "Not at the moment." He looked over the book I had in my hand. "Reading for fun? Saihara is truly such a nerd~" He giggled and opened his laptop, grinning restlessly.

"Yeah yeah, but it's still contributing to my criminology major, reading these type of books help me get into the right mindset." I tried to defend my integrity, but this just made the boy laugh even more.

"Feeling attacked, Shuichi?" He leaned against his hand as he watched me sigh. I reached for my bag and pulled out my AirPods, slowly slipping one into each ear. "Fine then, go ahead and ignore me. I'm still not going anywhere, Saihara."

Those words sounded different than usual... somewhat sincere? I shook the idea from my head and reached for my phone, quickly opening up Apple Music and selected a song.

Soon, my ears were filled with the voice of Ricky Montgomery, 'Line Without A Hook' playing through the speakers. I had made my music extremely loud to block out any distractions, specifically the distraction sitting in front of me.

I leaned forward and slipped my fingers under the leather bookmark and lifted it from the table, sliding it into my book before closing the cover. I took my pen and placed the felt tip against my notepad.

While the words 'you're a pond and I'm an ocean' rang in my ears I brought my gaze up to Kokichi. I watched as his eyes moved from side to side as he looked over his laptop, his fingers swiftly moving along the keys.

He looks so- I can't even explain it. I think it's got to be his eyes... they're so mesmerizing. Such a gorgeous tint of lavender with hints of violet undertones lining the glossy edges of his pupils.

Without relishing it, those purple eyes had lifted their attention from the computer to mine, our eyes softly gazing at each other. Shit-

I hurried to break that contact, glancing back to my notepad with a light tint of blush growing on my cheeks. This is way too embarrassing, I can't keep sitting here with him.
