                                                                              *The Beginning*

Kore ran through the wild forest as fast as her legs could manage. But no matter how far she ran, she could still feel the evil presence following her. This feeling was unlike any other she knew. It made her stomach churn and her mind foggy. She was drawn to the power it emitted, but she knew the danger it possessed for she had seen it.
*
She had only been in this strange, yet beautiful land for less than a day. She had been wandering through the trees trying to find a way back to her home, when she stumbled upon a terrifying scene.

Through the branches of the thick, snow covered trees around her, Kore saw the most intriguing woman she had ever laid her eyes on. The woman looked to be seven feet tall, with long, blonde hair, flowing far past her shoulders, and piercing gray eyes. She wore a regal blue dress so light it looked almost white. On top of her head was a crown, which seemed to be made of ice, and she was carrying a deadly looking staff. The air around her appeared to be constantly snowing, though the weather was calm everywhere else.

Kore was so enchanted by the woman that she failed to notice the other two creatures. One was the dwarf who seemed to feed off the power he got just by standing near the woman. He knew he was had the high ground compared to the other. The second was a faun who lay sprawled on the ground, backing away in fear.

Kore had been so enchanted by the woman that she realized too late what was happening. She stared in horror as she watched the frightening woman turn the faun to stone before her eyes. She let out a slight scream before running into the snowy forest surrounding her.

"What was that?" The Witch asked the dwarf at her side.

"I'm not sure, Your Majesty." He replied.

"Well quit standing around and send Maugrim to find out."

"Right away, Highness."

Kore tried not to look behind her as the howls grew closer.  She knew that she would not last much longer without help, but she kept running. Then she heard a voice, that seemed to come from nowhere and everywhere at the same time.

"Keep running, Kore. You are almost there."

Almost where? The girl thought to herself. She still couldn't see anything but trees in front of her. Even still, she obeyed the strange voice. Suddenly, she reached a river and noticed a small boat against the bank.

"Get in. It will bring you to me."

Though she did not know who the voice belonged to, she knew she could trust it. Her intuition had never wronged her before.

She obeyed and quickly pushed the boat into the water before climbing in. Though the water seemed calm, the boat started moving. She knew it would only be a matter of time before the wolves reached the river, and she could only hope that she would be out of sight before then. Kore watched as they started emerging from the woods and headed towards the river. She lowered herself and held her breath as they started sniffing around and looking for the girl. It appeared that they thought she hadn't crossed the river because they howled, before turning back to the snowy woods.

The girl sighed and sank down into the boat. She was safe, for now.

Kore hadn't meant to fall asleep,  but when she woke up, it was past dawn. She looked around her to see if there was anything familiar, but having only been in this world for a little over a day, nothing did. At some point in her journey, the snow had started to melt and everything around her was now very green.
