Rebecca entered the office. "Hello Louise, how was your afternoon at the Beauticians?" she asked.

"The Beauticians?...ohhh..."

She had forgotten she had told Rebecca that she was going for a massage and facial.

"Ohhh.... They were overbooked so I spent some of the afternoon at a Café in Mt Lawley enjoying some yummy coffee and pancakes and reading Vogue."

A little surprised by the reply, Rebecca exclaimed "Wow, how many pancakes did you eat? You look kind of exhausted!"

Laughing as genuinely as she could muster Louise replied, "Do I?"

She had been so preoccupied with the mini-fantasy in the carpark that she hadn't even glanced in the mirror to check her makeup and hair, a routine procedure before alighting her vehicle.

Controlling her concern at Rebecca's comment, Louise stood up and headed to the bathroom on the other side of the room.

"Excuse me for a minute Bec."

"I'll go make a couple of coffees, or are you all 'coffee-ed out'"?

"Oh..... yes, you have a point there. Just make it a mineral water for me, sparkling. It might liven me up a bit!"

"Sure thing Lou."

Louise looked at herself in the mirror. Yes, Bec was right. She really did look as though she had just woken up, not quite the 'look' that she wished to portray to anyone, let along staff! Having thought that, she was not too bothered as it was Bec noticing and saying so. Since starting at 'WES Environmental' two years earlier she had built up quite a close relationship with Bec including sharing some dating stories and in turn, Louise had recounted some of hers. When Louise went on a date, the decision to do so was after considerable thought and much planning and her level of maturity and expectations allowed her to cope and react in a way that didn't involve any considerable level of negative fallout or angst. As a result, Louise's usual dating stories were tame affairs compared to Becs.

Bec was a fantastic PA. The last thing Louise needed was her work colleagues to be speculating about her private life. Part of why Louise was so well respected at work and socially, was her impeccable behaviour and respect for everyone's privacy. Call it a woman's intuition or the fact that Bec was not only an invaluable member of her staff, she was also very perceptive of her boss's mood and quite often her needs professionally and privately. There had already been a few times when Rebecca had guessed correctly as to what Louise was thinking before she spoke, but she was polite and discreet enough to voice her thoughts after her boss had spoken.

There had been moments at work functions when Louise had called on her trusted PA to save her from an over ambitious executive who after a few wines, felt confident enough to try and convince her to go out on a date. Bec was twenty four years old, very pretty and judging by her busy weekends, very popular with the boys. Her opinion of men, in general was that they were insecure, and didn't understand what women wanted. Louise, for a large extent, agreed with her but always reversed the right to allow for and hope for exceptions to the rule.

Louise splashed some cold water onto her eyes, patted them dry, and reapplied her lippy then walked back out into her office.

Bec re-entered with a cappuccino and a mineral water.

"There you go boss."

"Thanks Bec."

"So are you going to tell me who you had pancakes with, or do I have to tie you up and torture you?"

Louise broke into a titter of giggles.

The expression on Bec's face was half smiling, half inquiring.
