I decided to listen to the message. It could actually be an emergency and I would want to know, or it would be good to know what I was in trouble for now.

"Of course, you don't answer. You probably have a ringtone set so you can ignore me. Or there's people around and you're telling them how horrible I am. Well hello Jacelynn's friends this her mom, the horrible one she tells you about. I'm sorry to be interrupting whatever is going on but I'm trying to get ahold of my daughter. Maybe when you feel like gracing your family with your attention you can call back." My mother's voice played.

I had tried to explain to her that voicemail wasn't like the landline answering machine, no one heard it as it was being recorded. Which since she has a cell phone, I thought she would know, but all she took away from that was I record her. So now I would occasionally get messages with her telling me to go ahead and record her, even though by leaving a voicemail she was recording herself.

"Do I really want to call her back and deal with this?" I asked Cupid, "I mean we have already had a pretty crazy day."

Cupid looked at me from where she was chewing on one of her bones on the couch. She gave me a slight tail wag that didn't tell me if I should call my mother or not.

"You're not helpful." I told her, "I guess I better just bite the bullet. If I wait too long it'll be worse."

I hit the call back button and sighed as I waited for my mother to answer the call. Maybe I would get lucky and she'd be busy.

"Hello?" Roxanne asked as she answered.

"Hi mom, sorry I missed your call, we had some crazy going on here and I was talking to a police officer." I said in hopes that she would understand.

"Why were you talking to the police? What did you do? And that's no excuse to ignore your family, I'm sure the officers would have understood you taking a call from your mother."

"One of the neighbors got hurt mom, I didn't do anything."

"Why were you talking to the police if you didn't do anything?"

"Because I went outside to see what was going on."

"Well then that's what you get for being nosy, and you should have answered when I called."

"I wasn't being nosy mom."

"There was no reason for you to go outside." She insisted, I decided not to even bring up how the neighbor was acting about my music, she would just blame me.

"I'm sorry mom, what were you calling about?"

"Well didn't you listen to the message?"

"Yes, mom. I did but you didn't really say why you were calling."

"So, I have to have a reason to want to talk to my daughter? Am I really that horrible of a mother that I can't even just call to talk to you?"

"No mom. I felt bad for missing the call and wanted to make sure everything was alright before talking about anything else." I said trying to appease her but not having a clue what I was supposed to say to do so right now.

"Oh, so it's a chore to talk to me."

"Wait. What? Where are you even getting that?" I asked I was losing my patients with her and that never ended well.

"You just want to make sure you didn't miss anything and then you would just get off the phone and go back to pretending we don't exist and you have no family."

There was a knock on the front door.

"Hold on mom, someone is knocking." I said and answered the door.
