I was tired and had a headache when the alarm went off at seven am. I hated sleeping in too late on my days off, it felt like I just wasted the day so I had a weekend alarm. They neighbors in unit one were finally quiet. I got up and let Cupid outside for a few minutes while I stretched and filled her bowl up. I pulled out a jalapeño bagel and cut it open. I put it in the toaster over to warm up while I went to wash my face and let Cupid back in.
Cupid went straight for her bowl. I put cream cheese on my bagel and ate as I assessed what all I wanted to get down today. There were a few dishes to do, I wanted to dust, and vacuum. After that I could do laundry.
"Well I think we get a little bit of time to relax before starting." I told Cupid, "Quiet time ends at nine am on the weekend so we'll wait to get things started until then."
I decided to watch an episode of Gilmore Girls to kill time, I took some ibuprofen in hopes it would solve the headache problem before I started cleaning. Cupid was curled up with me for the episode, it was now nine-thirty and I needed to get started before I lost all motivation to clean. I felt bad moving Cupid when I turned it off to get up. She stayed on the couch and watched me as I turned on my cleaning playlist. It was only slightly louder than what I had just had the TV on, loud enough to hear and enjoy.
I had just finished the dishes when there was pounding on my front door. I dried my hands and went over to see who was trying to break down my door.
"Hello? I asked as I answered to find the man from unit one standing there fuming.
"Turn your fucking music off." He said.
"I'm sorry what?" I asked.
"Turn your fucking music off. My wife is sick and you're here blaring music at the break of dawn." He screamed at me.
"No. Your wife is not sick she's probably hung over. You guys were the ones blaring music all night and I didn't come pounding on your door. Quiet time ended at nine am and it's now going on ten am so I will play my music now." I told him.
"I will call the cops." He snarled at me through the security screen door.
"Go for it, when they get here and I show them the lease agreement and tell them about you partying all night they're just going to be annoyed at you for wasting their time." I said, Cupid was growling low in her throat behind me.
"You're a fucking bitch and you will pay for this. Can't even respect your neighbor being sick." He continued.
"My TV didn't bother you guys earlier; you're just being an asshole now." I said.
"The TV didn't have bass."
"Well you'll love when I start vacuuming then." I responded.
"You will not be vacuuming today you fucking cunt. You will respect my wife being sick and not make any fucking noise or you'll pay." He screamed.
"Good luck with that." I told him and shut the door.
I locked it for good measure even though there was no getting through the security door. I even went back to the back door and made sure it was also locked in case he decided to be more psycho. I left the music playing and got started on the dusting in my room, then moved into cleaning the bathroom before dusting the living room.
I plugged the vacuum in and started to run it to finish my cleaning routine. The neighbor pounded on the wall between our apartments, then there was pounding my front door again. I left the vacuum running to peek out the window. It was just him again so I went back to what I was doing.
I was just finishing up when I heard screaming from next door. I turned off the vacuum to better hear what was going on. There was just screaming. I couldn't tell if it was the psycho man or his hungover wife.
